Question about Onkyo DV-CP701 Multi-disc DVD Player

1 Answer

Does not recognize discs in drive: "NO Disc" message displayed

Works properly when cold. Can change and read multiple discs.

After warming up, with discs in the drive, it will search for discs but does not find any, displays NO Disc message. Tray can be opened to remove discs, no problem.

Did not think it would help since temp sensitive, but opened player, blew out with air, still has same problem.

Sounds like the optical pickup is going bad. replace the optical pickup part # 24801016A you can get it at www.vancebaldwin.com . there are four electronis sensors inside the pickup A,B.C,and D. this is the focus and read sensors. the laser must land on all four of the "pads" (sensors) these can appaer to work at first but soon begin to degrade their read ability. the E, F sensors can also cause this problem. no the sensors can not be replaced it's the whole assebly.

Cd software disc will not load on to my computer. Isn't being recognized

If in case the cd was not recognized upon loading it to the computer you may do the following to check wether the cd is faulty or the cd drive.
  1. Verify that the correct disc (CD/DVD) is used when prompted to insert the disc.
  2. For programs on DVD, verify that the drive containing the DVD is a DVD drive and not a CD-ROM drive. Most DVD drives will have DVD printed on the front of the drive. For programs on DVD, consider the following:
  • DVD drives can read both DVD's and CD's.
  • CD-ROM drives can read only CD's.
  1. If multiple disc drives (e.g., CD-ROM and CD-RW, or DVD and DVD-RW, or CD-ROM and DVD-RW, etc.) exist on the computer that can read the disc (refer to the items under Step 2), insert the CD or DVD into the other drive and try the program again.
  2. If you are attempting to install a program and the installation does not begin after inserting the CD/DVD into the proper drive, refer to the program's instructions for the installation procedure.
  3. Clean the CD/DVD in the following manner:
  1. Place a small amount of nonabrasive liquid soap on the shiny side of the CD/DVD.
  2. Using your fingertips and warm water, gently rub the soap on the CD/DVD in a circular motion.
  3. Rinse the CD/DVD thoroughly and dry it using a clean, soft T-shirt or lint-free towel. (Do not use paper towels or tissue paper.)
  1. Try to use a different CD or DVD in the drive to see if that disc can be read.
  2. If possible, insert the problem CD or DVD into the DVD or CD drive of another computer to see if the issue persists.

I have a IBM thinkpad that has a cd drive only. Is there a way to take out the cd drive and install a drive that is for cd's and dvd's. If so, how would I go about doing that and how much would it cost?

Hi, what it the model of your DVD? Please the correct driver here : www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TPAD-MATRIX.html

Other tips : CD and DVD drive troubleshooting
  1. Verify the disc media used.
Try multiple original discs (not burned copies) which are clean and free of scratches. See Information about CD and DVD media.
Note: Dark colored discs such as black may be more difficult to read.

  2. Verify that the disc is seated properly in the CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drive.

  3. Verify that the drive is seated properly in the ThinkPad system by reseating the drive.
If another similar machine is available, then verify that the drive works in the other machine and that the other drive works in this machine.
    Notes:
    • The CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drives cannot be removed in ThinkPad G40 and R50e systems.
    • Shut down, remove the power cord, and remove the battery from the ThinkPad system before removing the CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drive.

I have this problem after searching this fault on the net I found it to be the Lens sticking on the rails if the Xbox isn't shut down properly the lens assembly stays at the far end of it's track out of reach of DVDs & Games. I don't recommend this if your not handy with electronic devices or it's under warrenty but search the net for the fix & pull it apart, eventualy you'll get to the drive open it & thers the problem. just push it back into place put it all back togeather try it & shut it down properly each time & it should work mine still does

I put in a blank cd and I cannot burn it because in my computer it shows that there is no cd inserted

Here you go...I hope this works for you....
CD/DVD Is Not Recognized
spacer.gif spacer.gif spacer.gif spacer.gif Many times, after inserting a disc into the CD or DVD drive, the disc is not recognized by that drive. CD-read and DVD-read issues can be caused by many sources. Perform the procedures presented in this General Computer Advice article when troubleshooting CD-read and DVD-read issues.

Begin with the first procedure and continue through the list. Try using the CD or DVD after each procedure is completed. For any procedure that requires changing current system settings, record the original settings before completing the procedure.
  1. Verify that the correct disc (CD/DVD) is used when prompted to insert the disc.

I have a specific game that will not play on my xbox 360,Lego star wars the complete saga. Every other game works but this one. I thought was a bad disc but i got it exchanged and still the same thing...

Try to install the game to the HDD. You must have the NXE Dashboard.

To do this simply insert the game onto the drive and go to the menu where it shows the game disc.

Press Y on the image of the game and select "Install to Hard Drive".

After the game finishes install select "Play From Hard Drive"

If the game fails to install try cleaning the disc with warm water NOT hot or cold water but WARM. After that dry the disc with a soft towel or some sort of SOFT cloth by wiping away from the center of the disc.

CD/DVD player doesn't read disc

Unless it's a hardware problem, (physically damaged, replace drive), then it sounds like a driver issue. Over time drivers (the software that runs the hardware) can be corrupted, get into a compatability conflict with new programs, or lost by the system. You obviously can't reinstall the drivers from your recovery discs, but you can (usually) download them from your manufacturer's website.

In your Start menu's search, type Device Manager. Open DM and expand the + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.

If your drive is not listed in there, then it's not installed, download it's software from your manufacturer's website.

If your drive is listed but has a 9b861c0.gif next to it, then there's a driver problem. Double click the drive and note what it says under "Device Status" on the General tab. Go to the Driver tab and click "Update Driver..." Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and Windows will search both your computer and the internet for the proper drivers for your device.

Even if your drive is listed and it's status is "device is working properly" you may still need to reinstall the drivers. Often there can be a driver conflict that your computer is not aware of to report back. In any case, before replacing the drive you'll definately want to try fixing the drivers.

Hope this helps
