Re: Does not recognize discs in drive: "NO Disc" message...
Sounds like the optical pickup is going bad. replace the optical pickup part # 24801016A you can get it at www.vancebaldwin.com . there are four electronis sensors inside the pickup A,B.C,and D. this is the focus and read sensors. the laser must land on all four of the "pads" (sensors) these can appaer to work at first but soon begin to degrade their read ability. the E, F sensors can also cause this problem. no the sensors can not be replaced it's the whole assebly.

Hello, The problem sounds like the spindle motor is about to go out completely. If a disc does not spin or does not spin at it's proper speed the optical lens reading laser can not read the disc and you get a "no disc", or "disc not recognized" error message. On average a dvd will spin 3 times faster than a regular cd will. The following pictures will show you what these components look like.
Check around your local area to find what a service technician will charge to replace the part. On average it will usually cost between $60-90 dollars most of which is labor.
I hope this gives you some idea of what the problem is and how to solve it.
If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
This are some reasons for this :
the reading lens as become week so needs replacement .
2, disk compartment mechanism is not perfect sometime the lens is not brought to right possition to read disk , reasons worn out belts especially loading tray belt. change this belts .
I have the same problem. When I insert a disk, my NAD T 550 DVD player displays 'No Disc'. It started with new disks while still reading older disks, but at some time it stopped recognizing any disk. Did you receive any suggestion yet or has anyone a suggestion?
Are you loading to play or to record? Commercial DVDs should play. DVDs for recording may not be recognized by your drive. First make sure that the disc is blank. You must insert a blank disc of the proper format: DVD-R or RW, DVD+R or RW. Even with the proper format, some brands may not behave the same way as other brands.
Hi, had the same problem myself, turns out (after some investigation) that the motor that spins the dvd wasn't getting power. I carefully pulled out the smaller ribbon cable that goes to the small circuit board beneath the drive caddy, then pushed it back in. Put it back together, turned it on and off it went! Yay!
