Crazy Compaq Laptop problem

I have a Compaq Presario laptop. Quite often, as I'm typing(doesn't matter where), the cursor jumps either up a couple lines or down. So, now I'm typing within something I've already typed making a huge mess. It's happened 8 times since I started writing this. What causes this and how can I stop it? I've scanned for viruses in Norton and nothing is found.

I thought about leaning on the touch pad, too, so I typed with my hands straight up, in the hunt-and-peck mode and it still happens. I've only had this laptop about a month, so I hope it's not a matter of it being dirty!

Coolness..a Crazy computer, and a compaq besides..

you are suffering from pre mousepad failure syndrome....it usually culminates from grease, oil, dirt, etc, getting into the edges, and compromising the innards..

time for a new palm rest, methinks.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62. When typing anywhere, the cursor randomly jumps to another spot in the text and continue inserting text there. How do I correct this?

This typically happens when the typist's palms touch the touchpad, which the pad treats as a mouse click. See if the cursor is jumping to where the pointer is.
Most touchpads have a control panel (usually part of the MOUSE Control Panel) where you can reduce the sensitivity (or disable) the left click function from tapping the touchpad.

Compaq Presario CQ50 + over sensitive touch pad

Try the mouse settings in the control panel, also try uninstall any touchpad software and remove any touchpad software from running when the pc boots.
To do this either type msconfig into the run/search box or a program like cc cleaner under tools/startup

My cursor jumps back to the beginning when i'm trying to type. i'm constantly having to backspace and correct and reset my cursor. any suggestions?

Disable your touchpad if you consistently have this problem.

When you are typing something, and you suddenly touch the touchpad (tapping this touchpad moves the cursor) then your cursor will suddenly change position which then mess up your typing.

If you don'r have an external mouse connected, better be careful not to touch the touchpad. If you have an external mouse, better disable this touchpad.

Cursor jumps when typing

since you laptop mouse is touchpad. when you starts typing, your finger(hands) touches the touchpad which throw the cursor away. Make sure, while typing your hands does not touch the touchpad of the laptop.

When I am typing he cursor jumps around

It is a fault with Lenovo laptops. My cursor jumps all the time, no matter what software I am using. It is NOT the 'sensitivity' of the touchpad, for my cursor jumps even when I am not typing, even if I don't touch the laptop! I can set the cursor to a certain point on a document and then, after about 30 seconds, it will just jump to another point, even if I am in another room.

Cursor jumps around

Does the cursor jump around when your hands are nowhere near the touchpad? The touchpads are heat and pressure sensitive. I personally have very warm (and sometimes sweaty) hands. I have this problem often when working on laptops. If I hover my hands over the pad, it causes the mouse to move. I've had to take a business card, put tape on one side of it, and use it as a flip-cover for the touchpad on most of my laptops. If the cursor moves around when you're nowhere near the laptop, then you may want to try disabling the pointing stick (if it has one). I've had several clients with laptops where the pointing stick mouse control go crazy and move and click on things.
