I have an older Jenn-Air model 2800 electrtic range. I have a grill cartridge on the left that I use twith the griddle. As of yesterday the element won't completly turn off when you set it to off. The top, longer element stays warm and the exhaust fan stays on low. I replaced it with a 4 prong dual cooktop cartridge and that works fine. Is it the 5 prong grill element, or the switch?

If the grilling elements does not get hot enough, then the main reasons for that are:
Escessive air movement across the grill.
Surface controls may not be properly set.
and the voltage maybe low.
But if is not getting hot at all then you can check by exchainging the elements to see if it is the element itself, and if it is the element then you will need to replace it.
I hope this help!!
If you need to replace it I know a place that are very cheap for Jenn-Air parts and super fast delivery...Let me know.
I just had the same problem- when I replaced the whole cartridge. I repalced the infinite switch- do the one that gets the hottest- or do both. It is easy to do- just write down the wiring diagram - make sure all power is off- cost of new switch was about $37.00 This solved the problem- however make sure to check the sizng on the new switch shaft as my old knob would not fit properly on the shaft of the new switch. good luck
these are cartridge elements corrrect? try reversing the cartidges, now the front small will become the rear small . does it not work in this position? and the newly placed front burner work?? this will determine if the proble lies within the cartridge or the switches
grab hold of the installed burner cartridge at he top of unit and pry up slightly, should lift up without much effort, if not try lifting front side. they jsut lift up and slide back in no screws hold them in place
