You are entering either wrong name or password, or lack of password...

see the manual for default name and pass... if someone else used the router, reset it to zero by pressing that hidden on the back button many times and one or two times hold it for 30 seconds or arround that time.

if the router is new try:

name admin
pass admin

name admin
pass 1234

name admin
pass 123456

if the router is new... the password must be the one in the manual that came with it... otherwise something strange has been done arround that.

Hi,

The admin user name and blank password, is a default setting of the dlink, perhaps somebody would have changed the default setting on it, Hence Please press the reset button and reset the device to factory defaults, you may need to press the reset button for 30 secs and once the reset is done, Unplug the power for 120 secs and then turn it back on. And now you can try the same, I strongly feel that it should work now, Furthermore the settings saved on the router would be set to factory defaults hence, you may need to configure the router/Modem for internet connectivity.

Kindly let me know the Kind of internet service that you are using for 'Help with modem/router configuration'

Happy Troubleshooting!!

Turn your computer off.
Turn the router off.
Use an Ethernet cable to connect from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your computer.
Turn the router on.
Turn your computer on, and let Windows start.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter
Look for output similar to: Default gateway ... 192.168.123.456
Start Internet Explorer
Type http://192.168.123.456
Press Enter
You will see the router's "login" screen.
Try several combinations of ID/password:
'admin'/(leave the password blank)
(leave the ID blank)/'admin' password
'admin'/'admin'
One of them should be correct.
Then, click to run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard to define your wireless network.

Establishing a password for a linksys router

Most Linksys routers can be accessed using your web browser by typing this into the address bar (Hook your computer into the router using an ethernet (network) cable):

192.168.1.1

Here are a few typical login passwords to try:

User: admin
Password: password

User: admin
Password: admin

User: (leave blank)
Password: admin

User: (leave blank)
Password: password

Once you are logged into the router, you can visit the settings page to change the login password, or the Wireless Security page to change the wifi password.

Hold down the reset button on the back of the router while you unplug and plug back in. make sure it's pressed in. You might want to use an unfolded paperclip or toothpick. Please rate my answer. Thanks

How do i put a password on my wireless router

There are a couple of answers to this questions.

FIrst off, did your router come with an installation cdrom?

If so you should ber able to do this via the setup utility on the cdrom

If not, which I am guessing is the case, you will have to go to your routers admin page

Go open an internet browser
In the URL Address bar type: 192.168.2.1
Does this bring up the router admin window?

If so you may need a user name / password to get in.

Try username: admin password: admin
username: admin password:leave blank
username: leave blank password: leave blank

401 Authorization Error when accessing a Web-based Utility

Getting the 401 Authorization Required error page means that you tried to access a Setup page and entered an invalid password three (3) times. To reset the password, the device must be reset to factory default settings. Resetting the device: 1. Hold in the Reset button (usually located on the front or back panel) for 30 seconds. 2. Unplug the power cord to the device and wait for 1 minute. 3. Plug the power cord back into the device. 4. This will restore the device's default settings, which includes a default password of admin. 5. You can now try to access the Setup page again. Accessing the Setup Page: Open a Web Browser (either Internet Explorer or Netscape). Type the IP Address of the device into the Address Bar and press [Enter]. 1. The User Name and Password Prompt will appear. 2. Leave the User Name Field blank. 3. Type in the Router?s Password, admin, (the default Password). 4. Click OK or press the [Enter] key. If the device was reset to factory settings, the password of admin should be valid and the Setup page should load. If not, repeat steps to reset the device.
