DvD Player on PC

I have just reinstalled a XP on my Packard Bell Machine - all working fine - have a few issues with the sound driver - all sorted now except for the DVD player. The CD/DVD player works fine, will read CD's ok but when i put in a DVD and play it through windows media player it errors saying

"Windows media player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer"

Any ideas? It used to work fine before the reinstallation. And they are region 2 disc with region 2 selected in the propeties.

Please help.

You need to UNINSTALL the drivers and not delete them if you had done so on the PC. If this wont help it is possible that the OS must be reinstalled after formatting of the drive and thereby the drivers can be installed.

I have a Packard Bell Imedia desktop not sure of the model. It was working fine until recently, I switched on my pc and after the boot screen "NTLDR is missing Alt Ctrl Del" message appeared....

Remove the hard disk and attach it to an USB hard drive adapter and then connect it into the USB port of a working computer. This computer will detect the hard drive as an external storage device, then you can open the various folders and files to copy your files to this computer or burn your data to a CD/DVD disc or USB flash drive.
Return you hard disk back to your Packard Bell so you can reinstall Windows.

M10 was a codename for the Radeon 9600, so you're good with that.

If everything worked right before, and you're getting artifacts, andyou have the latest drivers, and the game worked fine before, then thatdoesn't leave too much that I can think of. Typically, artifactshappen due to overheating/hardware issues. I used to get artifacts onan old dell of mine when I was playing around with overclocking my card.

You should check your machine to see if the fans/interior have built updust, especially since it's a few years old, and see if your fan is working properly. Try to keep your machinecool, and adjust graphics settings for performance over quality.

I was looking to see if Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/) would be compatible with your machine, and see if that would help, but I just can't be sure, as laptops are more finicky about unfamiliar drivers. It sounds like you're doing everything else right, but even the hardware can show it's age sometimes.

If you cannot see the speaker icon in the taskbar, click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and tick place icon in the taskbar. That's if a driver has been installed for your sound device which is a creative sounblaster I think.
