Question about HP Photosmart C4180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

New black print cartridge is getting a "low ink" error message

This is the third cartridge that within a week or two gets a "low ink" error message and printing is compromised ... first page is OK, then most of most pages has what look like low ink printing.

Ideas?

The printer is a little over a year old.

Thank you for the suggesting. I reinstalled the drivers. The ink still registers as empty. Here is the history:

    1. I purchased a new ink cartridge from Staples two weeks ago, with a color one (95/98).

    2. The black cartridge is registering as empty. Color is near full. I have not been doing extreme printing.

    3. I have cleaned and aligned the print heads.

    4. Still shows empty.

    5. This is the third cartridge that this has happened with, so I think the cartridge is fine. The printer seems to be unable to release or detect the ink in the cartridge.

    6. Print pages are fine now, but if like the last two it will start to get blotchy.

    Any other ideas?

Here' show I fixed this problem ... contacted HP on their web chat help line. After way too much discussion, got them to agree it was a firmware problem. Here's the best news ... they have a program that for $50 they sent me a refurbished HP C4180 and I sent them back the falied one! So, the one I have looks new to me and is operating just fine! Thanks for all of your help!

Too generic and too lack of info to help precisely but try reinstalling the drivers, FIRST uninstall all HP stuff completely and reboot your system. After reinstalling take both cartridges out, buy a bottle or spray of isopropilic alcohol and clean the cartridges contacts carefully. If cartridges are new and genuine there is no need to do that of course.

yes, there are some software that you can easily download from Internet that will allow you to reset the soft configuration of the printer to zero, just to make sure that printer isnt physically broken. Try "ip1500 service tool" and similar names. For now I cannot give you instructions on how to use them cuz I dont know which one you might download, I can give you this link which is in spanish and I don`t know if you will understant but just try please

    http://www.yoreparo.com/descargas/ver_at...

if you download and make the soft reset the config of the printer you will make sure you dont have problems in that part like recognizing cartridges ink load and stuff like that. I cannot make exact match cuz I dont know if that soft I liked you to works on your printer exact model.

    G luck

Black cartridge is new. registers low ink level and does not print at all.

Unplug the printer from the wall. Noe remove the power brick from the printer for 60 seconds. This will reset any error message the printer is getting. Plug the printer back in.

Turn on the printer. Open up the printer and take out the black cartridge and reseat it. Do the same for the color cartridge. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page. Any error messages?

If you still get the error message, then it's possible that the sensor in the Dell Series 5 ink cartridge is bad. If this is a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge, then take it back to the place of purchase for a replacement or refund.

black = black side(left) color = color side(right)

photo cartridge = black side(left color = color side(right)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to purchase a Dell Series 5 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Please take it back to the place of purchase for a replacement.

Print heads cans wear out. Put in cartridge sound more like a low ink level. Check ink levels and reseat the ink cartridges. Still no? I'd suggest having the print nozzles checked by a repair center or Canon.

Wouldn't print black-and-white if the color cartridge is empty

Select true black and white. Any other setting uses the colour cartridge to sharpen the printing.

Dell a940 error code 50c

From doing my research, I have found that the 50C Error message comes from the cartridge, usually if it has been refilled. If this cartridge is new, please return it to the place of purchase for a new one or a refund.

Here's what happens when you refill the Dell Series 2 ink cartridges. There is a sensor in them that cannot be reset.

Dell ink cartridges can only be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's website.

Dell ink cartridges have a sensor that reports the ink level as low once it reaches a certain level. The sensor can not be reset. If you refill an ink cartridge that previously reported low ink, it may print fine, but the sensor will always report low ink. Buying or replacing ink cartridges with new Dell cartridges will resolve the low ink message.

Dell discourages ink refills. Refilling ink may lead to print quality problems, and even eventual hardware problems.

if u have not refilled ur cartridge and u still get this error i suggest u buy a new cartridge.....

good luck

Wont print with all new ink cartridges

If the error message is only "magenta/cyan low", it doesn't cause any error. The low message stays after replacing ink cartridges if they're replaced too early (before they're indicated as actually empty), it doesn't cause the printer to not work.
However, some other problem might be faulty, or there might be another error message. Try emptying printer queue and print from Ink Management -> Menu/set (twice) to check wether the problem is with communication from pc or if the printer actually is unable to print.

How to reset the ink level for a HP 60 ink cartridge? I have just refilled a HP 60 black ink cartridge but can not find anything on how to reset the ink level. I would do the "3 ink cartridge" trick but I...

You cannot reset the ink level indicator for the HP 60 ink cartridge. It shouldn't matter anyway because the level is only estimated for "management purposes only" (see user manual) meaning to let you know when it's near time to order a new cartidge. I have tried cycling through 3 different cartridges to reset the ink level for the one I refilled but it didn't work. Refill and just ignore the ink level indicator. Also, it's a good idea to clean the print heads with the solvent in the refill kit before refilling to remove old ink and imrpove print quality.

Printer Always Indicates Ink is Low or Cartridge is Incorrect

To get rid of the low ink warnings google the specific error message with 'ink refill' and look for 'engineers reset' or similar ..

NB. Dell printers (re-badged Lexmarks) are notorious for ink usage and high costs .. so my best recommendation would be to throw it away and purchase something else ..

Black Printer cartridge

It will tell you the colour is low, regardless of the format in which you are printing. I don't believe Canon provide a way for you to disable this for their printer range, so you'll need to put in the new colour cartridge to get rid of this error. (you should however, be able to print whilst receiving this message)
