You can also try to go to start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, and check if the device you connected have an exclahmation mark on it, if yes, right click on it an click uninstall. then right click on any other device in the list and click scan for hardware changes. and if a new window shows , choose install automatically, and press , next, ok or finish when you are asked for action.

When i try and run photo impression program is giving the error msvcrt.dll.

Good day! Pls. retry the installation, your installation with photo impression was not unable to be successfully loaded all the files. Uninstall please the photo impression then try again the installation. msvcrt.dll is a file that is needed in photo impression. Or try to copy that file in your OS cd.

Do you know where I can find a recovery disc for an HP 873n Media Center PC? I called hp and they don't have one.

Hi,
You are correct HP do not provide the recovery disks for this Media Center anymore.

I've just about searched the net for anyone who may have recovery CD's for sale but no no avail.

If you can still get into the operating system use HP Backup and Recovery Manager, its quick and user-friendly. To run, simply go to All Programs > HP Backup & Recovery > HP Backup and Recovery Manager. With HP Backup & Recovery Manager, file restoration is easy. To recover a deleted file, simply use the Restore Wizard.

For a full system restoration, press the F11 key during boot up and then select "Recover PC" from the menu if there is a recovery partition available (sometimes you have to hold down Ctrl and hit the F11 key on boot up)

Other than that you may have to purchase a Windows XP or Windows XP Media Center installation CD from a reputable store like PC World for example.

Good luck.

After virus attack, and virus successfully removed, cursor will not appear on some applications - i.e. Napster, I-tunes and when enter the Internet Explorer application through the desktop. Am able to get...

Best practices after nasty virus attacks that leaves your system unstable or working less than normal calls for a reinstall. My advice to you is backup any files you want to keep on a usb drive and VIRUS SCAN THE DRIVE. Once you are 100% sure that your files are backed up and virus free gather your OS install media and CD Keys then reinstall. I can not stress enough to be 110% sure your back up files are clean or you will reinfect your new OS install. With well over 12 years of experiences fighting viruses this is just the way to go rather than spending days or weeks of hair pulling trying to restore a damaged OS until this is a mission critical system for a customer.

I don't know how to access my Western Digital Backup. I have no icon to click.

hi

If you have a WD Media Center, Dual-option Combo, or Dual-option USB external hard drive, you can use the Retrospect Express software that comes with the drive to create a backup schedule that will backup your data onto the drive.

To setup an automatic duplicate schedule in Retrospect Express 6.5 on a PC, please follow the instructions below.
  1. Start Retrospect Express by pressing the Automatic Backup button on the front of your Media Center external hard drive after you have installed the Retrospect software and powered on and connected the drive.

  2. You will be presented with the Western Digital Automatic Backup Wizard. Click Next to continue.

  3. Highlight the drive(s) that contains the data you wish to backup and click Next. To select multiple drives or folders, hold down the Ctrl key and make your selections.

  4. You will have a choice to backup your documents only or all files, make your selection and click Next.

  5. Highlight the drive you wish to copy your data to and click Next.

  6. You will have the option to run the data duplication daily or once a week. Make your selection and click Next.

    • If you choose a daily duplication, you will have to select the time that you'd like the duplication to start each day, then click Next.

    • If you choose a weekly duplication, you will have to select the day and time that you'd like the duplication to start, then click Next.

    • If you wish to run the duplication one time when you are finished setting up the schedule, check the Start the backup now box and click Finish. Otherwise, just click Finish.

    • You will see the Automatic backup button glow a solid blue. When the blue light is on it indicates that the automatic duplication schedule is enabled and your duplication is set to run at the scheduled time.
For the duplication to run successfully, you must have both the computer and drive powered on and connected correctly at the scheduled time.
