Please Scan your system from www.Symantec.com for viruses and spywares. Online; And see that any unwanted software is running on your system.

My Toshiba Satellite A15-S129 is very slow How can i make this first. Plz help me at suja.islam@yahoo.com

Saying a computer is slow really is not giving out enough info. The A15's came with 256MB of memory, and runs XP Home - which was barely adequate. So that'd be the first area I'd address: most computers run slow 'cause they ain't got enough memory, and memory is cheap, so it's a crime not to give it an upgrade. If you indeed have 256MB of installed memory, then you should add a 512MB module (it uses laptop DDR PC2100 or PC2700 memory) and that ought to do it.

Dell computer.5 yrs.old. Very, very, slow. What can be done? Have dial up internet service. Also, what does memory upgrade mean?

Hi,

There's nothing you can do about your internet speed, dial up is dial up and is known to be slow. If you want fast internet then you would need broadband.

A memory upgrade would speed up the overall performance of the PC. For example: the computer may take 5 minutes to fully boot up and programs taking time to launch. This would not fully resolve but help it to be more responsive.

A memory upgrade is always recommended by me. I expect that your computer can be probably maxed out to 2GB of memory.

Regards.

My laptop is running slow? when im in the internet my computer runs slow

Available RAM is very important for speeding up your laptop while surfing. Check your available RAM by:

  1. Starting the Task Manager (Right click on taskbar and select it)
  2. Select the Performance Tab
  3. Compare the Physical Memory vs Commit Charge numbers.

For example, my fast computer has 3600 megs of total physical memory compared to a commit charge of 1200 megs. Meanwhile, my older, slow computer has only 650 megs of total physical memory with a commit charge of 1400 megs. This means the slow computer is always making 'pretend' memory from hard drive space, and that is why it is so slow. This is most likely the case with your computer as well.

I hope that helps.

Slow Dell computer 4600

Normally computers get slow for the following reasons.
1) Infected with malware/viruses. Run free programs available from (CNET) www.download.com. These include MalwareBytes, SPybot Search and Destroy, Adaware.
2) Computer hard drive is full or seriously fragmented. Try removing unneeded programs (especially pictures) and then attempt a defragmentation.
3) Hard disk failing or getting old. Sometimes this is due to environment. Smoky, dirty or dusty environments will eventually contribute to build up of heat inside the computer and excessive heat kills computers. Also hard drives are mechanical and they do wear out over time. Laptop drives take more abuse because they are moved around more than desktops. If they start getting noisy then it is time to prepare to replace it. If you haven't done it yet GET YOUR IMPORTANT DATA OFF NOW!!!!
4) Overclocked or over heated processors. Dust buildup in the cooling fans and heat sinks can cause the temperature to rise and when processors get heated up they slow down and evenyually crash.
5) Running out of memory. As our computers get older we keep adding programs and eventually (if we dont upgrade the memory) the computer runs out of memory.
So if I were in your shoes I would do the following:
1) run some of the malware removal programs I suggested (if your hard drive has the available space for them) and also run your anti-virus program.
2) Remove unneeded files from the hard drive and then run the disk defragmentation tool. I once had a customer that had jammed her hard drive full of pictures and when it crashed it had no room to rebuild itself.
3) if all that does not improve the speed then see about getting an upgrade for the memory.

Slow Labtop

First thing to do here is to run a good anti virus scan like Avast and also a anti malware software like Malwarebytes to make sure the slow computer is not cause by a virus or any malware on it then after that better remove also some unnecessary software on your computer to free some memory/RAM and that will make the computer much faster as the last option to make it fast is to add a RAM/memory on it...

CISNET 3100 Slow

Windows XP needs at least 1GB to run acceptable. What kind of memory you need to buy depends on your motherboard. Read the motherboard's manual or bring your computer to a computer shop to identify the memory.

Our PC is running slower and slower, do I need to erase the hard drive, and start over?

If you computer is running very slow , the first thing you can do firts if to rmeove unnecessary program that is installed to your computer to free up some memory on the computer, then if its still running slow cleaning the computer hard drive will definitely make it fast but if you're still not satisfied with the speed after cleaning the entire hard drive upgrading the RAM/memory of the computer will really make it fast...

Hope that helps...........

Slow

Yes. With a typical default configuration you should keep an amount of disk space free on the C: drive as this is where your virtual memory or page file sits. When the computers ram fills up, the OS writes some of that memory to disk (virtual memory) so that it can free up real hardware memory (which is fast) for running apps. When disk space is restricted on the C: drive memory management becomes more innefficient as things need to be erased from memory and then reloaded rather than just swapped from the virtual memory on the disk. Worse than slowness if you completely run out of space your system will freeze up.

You should make sure your c: drive does not fill up. Also if you have another drive (such as a d:drive) with more space you can change where the virtual memory resides and place it there so that it can grow as it needs to.
