I've had a similar problem where the fan stopped moving and the system gave the usual "protect" error. i think the IC's burned out on the amp board since the error was no longer there when i unplugged it. i ordered a new board off ebey for $25 shipped. make sure this is the problem by unplugging both the power and data cables from the amp circuit (the board with the big heatsink) and starting it. if it says starts normally then the problem is the amp circuit

Here is a tech note from Samsung concerning this problem. Not a fix but at least some sort of an answer about the problem. I guess you could check continuity on the fan and if it is dead you could replace it.

Hi,how can i reset my LG 7.2 home theatre system? The unit keeps displaying (M-PROTECTION) please help me.

Protection can't be "reset". The condition that caused it has to be corrected. Protection is enabled if the audio output is driven too hard or speakers with the wrong impedance (or shorted) are connected. Failure of related components can cause protection to be enabled.

There is a failed part in the amplifier. Usually a transistor in the output section.

Appears that you have a bad cap in the power supply that is changing value as it heats up. Hard to find - only thing you can do is go to suspected units and replace them hoping that you got the bad one. Or just wait till it finally pops.

If you've disconnected the speakers and the fault is still showing then the fault is internal with the Amplifier and it's shutting down to protect itself from further damage.

Your only solution is to remove the cover and have a look at repairing it yourself or take it to a repair shop.

protection error message means that your unit's fan is not working

it is a feature to keep your unit from overheating

check if there is anything blocking the fan of your unit from rotating

Hello,
Protection mode on a Samsung player most likely means that the unit is overheating due to a non or low functioning fan. Before taking it somewhere to be serviced turn the unit on and see if the fan in the back is functioning (it should be on whenever the unit is on). If it is not you can try gently blowing it out with a can of compressed air.
I am sure that you can have it serviced but it might be cheaper to purchase a new player.
Good luck and take Care,
-WN
