We had the same problem but had to get a service engineer becuase we can't survive even a few days without a washing machine!

The problem was that the motor brushes had to be replaced.

The engineer had to lean the machine backwards against the worktop to gain access from underneath.

Check that the outflow pipe is not blocked. Turn off power supply get a bucket ready, disconnect the outflow pipe from the u-bend under the sink and check that it is not blocked.

yes CPDD this very well could be the problem. Carbon brushes do wear down. They are situated inside the motor and if the motor is in the bottom of the machine then it would be very awkward to do yourself. It would be better to call out an engineer. But do check with hotpoints. The carbon brushes tend to be generic for all of their machines and when the motors were on top of the machine and not on the bottom they were really easy to change yourself and they are only between £10-15 to buy from a repair shop that sells spare parts.

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Water Inlet Valve

If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

Hoover hpe 236. water not draining, stops mid cycle, lights flash

Have you checked the pump filter, and or that the pump is actually working. if it spins o/k with no water in, then I would suspect a draining problem.
If filter clean and pump o/k, then it could be a control module fault. if this were the case, then it would probably be wiser to purchase a new washer.
Hope this is of some help to you.

Wash doesn't go through full cycle

I have a Maytag model A490 clothes washer. It works fine up to the rinse cycle and then shuts down. When it reaches this point it has become necessary to manually advance the dial a short ways whereupon it will fill with water and complete the rinse and spin cycles. This happens on both the regular and the permanent press cycles. What needs to be done to fix this problem?

Washing still wet - door won't open.

not a fault with washer. i guess you are plumbed into trap under sink. the spigot you fastened drain hose to is blanked off - there are various methods of doing this including have to saw off the end of the spigot with the bread knife. possible also a fault with pump or filter
