Admiral top loader no spin cycle

My Admiral washer will fill with water and agitate, but when it comes time to spin it wont drain or spin. I dont hear the motor or any other noise.
I opened the lid and put a screwdriver to press the switch to see if it will
spin nothing happened. Any ideas?

Is it normal when you open the lid the washer continues to agitate?

Thanks

How do I get the washer lid open when machine is filling up for rinse cycle? It locks.

  • Anonymous Mar 17, 2014

My Admiral washer works perfect until it gets to the spin cycle.while opening the top door and inserting a screwdriver to the spring loaded switch I can see that it's trying to spin but when i put my hand on the unit with little to no pressure i'm able to stop it.from what i can see there are no belts on this washer that may be slipping.

You can take an ohmmeter and remove one lead from the switch set your meter to continuity and see if it reads open then depress the switch and see if its closed or take both wires off the switch and put a jumper wire in the connectors to bypass the switch and see if it spins and yes its normal to keep agitating with the lid open the switch just works on spin

Check the drain pump first, its inside the bottom of the washer.

Does washer drain before the spin cycle starts?

Normally yes. There are around 12 to 20 gallons of water in the tub after the wash cycle, which will be anywhere from 63 to 110 pounds of weight in addition to the weight of the clothes. For the machine to start the spin cycle to remove this water would place a heavy load on the motor, gearcase, pullys, belts, gears, ect. With the water drained, the load is lighter, and much easier to start spinning the excess water out of the clothes. The normal cycles are: Fill, Agitate, Drain, Spin, Rinse Fill, Agitate for rinse, Drain, Spin Cycle and off. Imagine trying to spin a 5 gallon bucket of water over your head, full of water, and then empty. Which one do you think would be easier to do? And safer for you.

Washer won't drain or spin

top loader ??? or front loader??? if top loader you have broken your lid switch, will fill, agitate, but when it comes to drain/spin for safety reasons if the unit doent recognize the lid closed it will not advance...if yo have a front loader then i would suspect that something has gotten into the pump assy and preventing drainiing of water therefore will not spin

Ge top loader washer agitator does not work

To check the agitator. Start the washer into wash cycle. Once started Push down on top of agitator. If it catches some times or all of the time when pushing down, then then doggets are worn, under the agitator. You`ll have to remove the agitator to see these. If by pushing down on the agitator, nothing changes, Then you probably have a transmition problem. Check this and let me know what you find.

Washer fills, drains instead of agitating, fills, etc

ON THIS MACHINE WHEN IT AGGITATES MOTOR ROTATES ONE DIRECTION, WHEN IT PUMPS OUT AND SPINS IT ROTATES THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. YOUR MACHINE IS ROTATING THE WRONG DIRECTION WHEN IT FILLS., INDICATING THAT THE TIMER IS SENDING VOLTAGE TO WRONG WIRES. SOLUTION , REPLACE TIMER.
PS: MAKE SURE ALL WIRES ARE PLUGGED IN TO MOTOR. WHILE THIS IS UNLIKELY , I HAVE SEEN THIS BE THE PROBLEM.
