My Sony rdr hdc 100 plays recorded cds but most of the new dvds movies bought says no disc

First of all try to reset your unit.Unplug all the wires connected to it,and leave the unit for about 30mins.After that again connect the wires and start up the unit.
If it dose not help then,
The drive is not reading the disk properly. This is either caused by a fault in the laser/lens/drive itself which is leaving the laser misaligned and unable to read the disk or it is caused by dirt in the drive effecting the lens.

There is a Laser cleaning CD or DVD that you can purchase from any audio shop - its not expensive and useful to have around anyway. I would recommend you try a good qulity one such as this from Maxell http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maxell-Europe-Ltd-CD340-Cleaner/dp/B000001OM5

You may find that this will resolve the problem as a simple and quick fix.

If the cleaning disk does not work then you have to go mannualy,

To do so, remove the cover of the device that's you wish to clean, once you have done that, you may be able to locate the laser eye without any more dies-assembly, if not, dies-assemble the laser eye housing or what ever it is that's restricting access, please make sure to note, either with a diagram or marking with a coloured marker what screw came from where and how to re-assemble the unit.
Once you have done that, simply clean the laser with a soft clean cue tip or a cotton bud, the style used to clean ears with. After wiping , check with a magnifying glass for any traces of dirt or grime.
Once satisfied with its appearance, put it all back together and play some disc.

It will solve your problem,if not then the unit will have to go for service repair .Either the lens or the driver has to be replaced. As the unit has been running for a long period so the lens has weaken.By completely replacing with a new one will get your unit going once again.

Dvd does not read loaded disk

Have a detailed answer on wiki.answers under how to fix a dvd player. My conclusion is : 1. If the cd or dvd player won't start a disc (might display 'no disc') open the box and get good access to the laser lens (quite easy in many models). Clean the lens with an ear-bud (q-tip) and add some alcohol (I used after shave) on to aid the clean if there are still reading problems. Persevere with cleaning before trying option 2.
2. If it's selectively rejecting certain dvd's (and the problem might have become worse with time) consider ever-so-slightly bending the fine wires that suspend the lens over the laser, in an upward direction. Be very careful and read all the observations above first (on Wiki).

Dvd disc want play. Attempted to play several disc with negative results. Receive message that says"No Disc".

  • This could be a real easy fix actually. When you have a disk in the DVD player and it says "NO DISK" the 1 of 3 things is going on.
  1. Make sure you have a non home made DVD. Some DVD players will not play DVD'S in certain formats.
  2. If you have a normal DVD in the DVD player and are getting "NO Disk" then there is a real good possibility the lens is just so dirty that it is not recognizing your DVD at all. This happens a lot to all disk players that are neglected from the cleaning process. Get a disk player cleaner and run it through a few times until the disk is read again. Sometimes the lens is so dirty you have to try a few times just to get the cleaner disk itself to play just to do the actual cleaning. Make sure to run that cleaner disk through once a week. These disk cleaners "sweep" the lens and work well. You can get one at your local Best Buy for $8usd.
  3. The last thing it could be is that somehow the lens has come out of alignment. Just a millimeter out of alignment is all it takes to not be able to read a disk and DVD players get bumped and knocked off the shelf easy. So this can happen often especially with the more smaller travel DVD player.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Disc invalied

Hi,

If you are getting this message with an pre-recorded commercial DVD and it is from the correct region for your country then there is a problem with the laser not reading the disk and this is usually due to dirt or debris on the lens.

However, it is worth noting that these Coby players commonly give disk read errors such as this due to faulty drive components.

To clean the lens, you can avoid disassembly of the unit by using a DVD cleaning disk such as this. The alternative is to clean the lens with a Q-Tip and some isopropyl alcohol but you may have to disassemble the unit to gain access to the laser.

If the problem is related to disks you have recorded yourself make sure that these have been finalised before playing them with the DVD player.

The spec for this player states that it widely supports all of types of disk including Audio CD|CD-R|CD-RW|DVD|DVD+R|DVD+RW|DVD-R|DVD-RW

Therefore the problem is not with the type of disk you are using but the player itself as outlined.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

"No Disk" message on front display

If when you insert the disk you hear a whirring and clicking noise, CD spins, and does not read, then that is a problem with the DVD lens.

The DVD lens try to focus on the DVD track, by moving lens pickup and spinning the disk, but cannot read the tracks because the lens is dirty or defective.

Try first cleaning the lens with a DVD cleaner disk. And also if you can see the lens from the outside try blowing some canned air on it.

If this still does not help, then the lens pickup may be faulty, in this case you often replace the whole DVD drive unit inside the DVD player.

How to do DVD burning which does not complete? Why it is not finishing ?

the laser eye lens is probably dirty and a cleaning disk may correct the problem but if not then the unit will have to be opend up and cleaned manually ( there are creases in the laser lens that the cleaning disk won't get , but manually can be cleaned

When i put the dvd, in my screen it presents message 'no disk'

If you scratched the lens or even out a smudge on it, you might have ruined it. Use a Q-tip with nothing on it and gently swirl the lens for about a minute. Hrad to tell if it is just limited to the lens or to the foucus coil assemble as well without seeing it. Never attemot to clean the lens if you are not trained to. Use a CD/DVD lens cleaner if you need to clear a "no disc" error.
