If the overall brightness of the screen varies in different areas, this is usually a result of the backlight getting old - the backlight is like a very thin flourescent tube that runs along the bottom of the screen and provides the illumination. When backlight tubes are ageing they also often appear a bit pink, this can be seen very easily on the blank white page of a word document.

If your backlight is failing , some engineers will replace it - but it is more common that the entire screen is changed.

Brighter display on the left side of monitor than the other side

Sounds like the lcd screen might be going bad. There are no display settings that can modify parts of the screen. It's all or nothing as far as settings go. Have you tried hooking up an external monitor to see if it displays correctly? If it shows correctly on an external monitor the problem is definitely with the lcd screen. If they both show the same image of brightness on the left side, then your video card in the laptop might be going bad.

Left side on my laptop monitor is black, is it the monitor or the grapic card that is bad

If you have an external monitor, plug it into your laptop. If, on the external monitor, there is also graphical errors, it's your GPU, if not, then it's your display.

If you don't have one, it's a little more tricky. Generally, if it's a display issue, it will affect absolutely everything, all the time, the same way. If it's a GPU issue, you're going to see fluctuations, flickering, and just general weirdness.

The only way to tell for certain is to swap parts. Since a monitors is far easier to plug in than another GPU, that's your best bet to be sure.

Screen becomes pink with no image in local areas but not consistantly from use to use. right now it is the lower left corner. Friday it was the lower right.

This could be a faulty CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

well im not a great tech but i can give you one solution, you can try to connect it to ANY monitor from the VGA port of your laptop, just find a PC monitor to do this with. to "flip" the screen to different angles you will have to be logged on.

Hope this helps, i you have any further questions just ask

A small portion of monitr screen is solid black with no display.

Sounds like you have a broken screen.
Is there a crack along the edge of the black area?
If you apply a little finger pressure in the black area does it change color? If it doesn't change color then you you have a cracked screen.
Therefore you need a replacement screen.

LCD is out!... It's the electronics on the back of it.  There is no remedy or download that can fix it.
