Mah3000 really loud when spinning, would like to know if it can fixed reasonably. It was bought new around 1998, it has been a great machine, it was one of the first neptune made, any advice would be appreciated.

The howling (squealing) noise is likely the belt, if I had to make an educated guess. Of all the fixes you could be stuck with, that's one of the easier ones.


The reason I suggest that is because even though it probably isn't washing to its fullest potential either, you wouldn't really notice it, if it's still able to do a little agitation. Once the spin cycle kicks on, the motor applies a lot of power, and if the belt is loose, it'll spin that belt around the wheel, creating a really soothing and serene squealing noise, causing average humans to start seeking sharp objects with which to slice their wrists.

The main center bearing is going bad that's why it is not wanting to spin on its own and is also making the loud noise when its spinning i.e. sounding like a jet engine firing up or metal grinding noise. I would not repair this very expensive cost around $300 to $600 to fix I would go buy a good quality used one or a new one sorry for the bad news but that's what it is I see 2 of these a week in my shop same problem but hope this helps.

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

The fix was simple really. I went to Home Depot and bought a new Maytag washer. I am a genius.

I agree with his diagnosis. The rear bearings have gone bad and will eventually either seize or start ripping through the outter tub. It is expensive to replace. However It is worth replacing. You will spend a similar amount of money or more on a new machine. The guy you called probably doesn't want to do the job and just said buy a new one. Also whirlpools and maytags at this point are one in the same about 1 year ago maybe alittle more whirlpool bought maytag so you will see more washers that look like whirlpools with a maytag name on it

Gotta admit tonytools albeit not cheap has the best easiest tool to do that rough difficult repair.

first off check to make sure its spinning at all. although the waters draining is it really spinning? are the clothes stuck to the side walls as if they had??if so i would tip machine back and look on floor and around the inside of cabinet approx 12 in. from ground level looking for oil, transmission oil. if present youll need a new transmission and clutch assy

buy a new washer .specifically a direct drive whirlpool,no belt. maytag washers are not what they use to be.

Washing machine works fine UNTIL spin cycle. Loud engaging sound and then it makes a squeek, squeek sound...not really a squeek, but if you were to listen to it, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee and loud.
