OK Eagle, thanks for the web reference. We're inching closer, however the website and the toll free number at the site you referred me to told me that they are just laundry parts, not dishwashers. Is there another website for dishwasher parts that you know of?
I double checked the model number from the specifications label and it indeed is Kenmore 665.16634000 or maybe just 16634. It may be the original with this house from around 1988. It ran fine until the control panel went haywire last week.

You may want to contact Sears to see if there was a recall on your model dishwasher. There were problems with the door assemblies on some model dishwashers that were caused by the rinse agent leaking into the wire harness of the door. Over time the rinse agent would corrode the wire insulation causing the units to catch fire in some cases. The fix was a free inner door and wiring harness upgrade kit from the manufacturer. Here is a link you can refer to that may offer some assistance:
check and see if you are getting ac 110 volts to your water vave when trying to start the unit. if no power check your breakers and /or the incoming power to your dishwasher if they are ok and show 110 voltage coming to the unit then you probably have a control board or touchpad problem which would need a little more detailed check out.
If you do have ac 110 to your water valve then you may just have a bad water valve. Because the washer has to fill first. Hope that helps!!
It would depend on what a replacement model would run you. In looking at the web at general prices on touchpads and boards, I found the total for the two items, not including installing the new parts ran around 400 US dollars. This would be a choice only you could make.
Yes you can surely do it yourself..its just unplugging a few wires remove the old one and just install the new one.. I couldn't find the model number you have specified, but you can give these guys a call and specify ask for a new touchpad for kenmore 16372. They will ship it out for you.. I advise you call their toll free number that you can find on their site so that you can get it done real quick.. http://www.laundryparts.com/sunshop/index.php?action=category&id=bestsellers
you can find it on Appliance Parts.com, Appliance Pros.com Discount Appliance Parts and Appliance Repair Parts. The model you included isn't actually the model number. The data tag is
somewhere near the door gasket, so include that for sure so that i can directly guide you to the purchase zone..
