30 or 40 is the difference betwwen summer and winter. You can run the thinner 30 weight in winter and 40 in summer. As for your answer, 5 W 30 all the time.

Testimonial: "thanks for the answer! very helpful."

A straight foreward 20/50 ---change oil every 6000miles and the oil filter every third oil change ,use the cheapest oil you can buy no need for that BRAND stuff ,supermarket special is best and if you can get a offer like buy two and get one free grab a load of it .Do it my way and the engine will last forever with none of that horrid brown stuff inside it that ends up coming loose and blocking the pick up pipe filter.Best buy is turbo diesel engine oil for all engines ,really stays clean inside with .

Testimonial: "great! thanks much."

Go on e46fanatics and ask them. They love oil threads.

You can try a thicker oil. But it sounds like a valve lifter may be going bad. Try an additive to see if it makes any difference. May be that the pump did not pump the oil right away. Run the car for a while . See how it sounds. If the ticking gets worse it is probobly one of the lifters.

SOURCE: how to replace rear shocks on 2003 bmw 325i

You have to take the trunk liners off of both sides. There will be 3 13mm nuts on each side for the shocks, and under the car is a 16 or 17mm bolt that has to be removed. I hope this helps.

many reasons for this. A bad relay can do it, or a wheel speed sensor can to. Also the relay may be at fault. You can have the codes checked for free at any Auto Zone and they will tell you what part is bad

Can I use 5w 30 weight instead of 10w30 wait for a

Yes

10W-30 is seldom used- the last 15 years

You can use 0W-30,5W-30

I only use MOBIL 1 Extended (walmart)

I would guess all GM Vehicles have called
for 5W-30 since 1980

Oil pump/engine ticking

I would go with the previous owners seldom changed
the oil & you bought a car with issues your not going to fix

( You checked the oil & it was thick, that told you what I
just said)

But you knew or expected as much, right !!

No vehicle uses 10W-30 oil in the last 25 years

Go with 0W or 5W-20 or 5W-30 & a half quart
of Marvel Mystery Oil

Mobil 1 Full/Syn

After that-- not much you can do except pull it
apart

Oil for bmw320 td compact

BMW recommends you use Mobil 1 (5w 40) or (5w 30). If you live in a very hot climate use 5w 40, if not, use 5w 30 or alternate between the two viscosities each season. Ultimately, you would be ok using 5w30 in North Dakota year-round, and 5w40 in Texas year-round, you just might notice a small decrease in performance during extreme weather.

I'm just trying to find out what kind of oil my car needs: synthetic, synthetic blend, high or low viscosity. i've narrowed it to 10w30, but i don't know the rest

There is no rest

If you know your vehicle uses 10W-30, your done

You can use any brand, any type, synthetic or not

I don't believe you use anything other than 5W-30

I would use 0W-30 or 5W-30 Mobil 1

There are not many vehicles made, after 1995
that are not 4 or 6 cyl, and they all use 5W-30

Yes it is recommended for this make vehicle, Plus on a personal note I use Mobil 1 Synthetic oil in all of my personal vehicles the protection you get from synthetic oils is well worth the few extra dollars.
