Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook

HP dv1000 drive failure

Hi, I just read the thread regarding HP vd1000 drive failure. Your suggested solution was to reinstall the OS if it hangs while rebooting in safe mode. Mine hangs at MUP.SYS, but I also got drive failure while performing the drive test in CMOS.

I was able to boot from a Norton recovery CD, but when analyzing the drive, it reports "Unrecognized File System."

So my question is, "will reinstalling the OS - Win XP PRo - solve this??
Also, could it be the controller?

Thanks ... desperate.

Hi, Here's complete details of what occurred.

    Here's the details:

Last night I went to bed as usual leaving the machine on assuming it would hibernate as usual.

This AM the screen was black w/a few characters of garbage ending in a flashing cursor.

I held down the power button to reboot. Selected "Start Windows Normally." Windows starts to load (I see the welcome screen) and there is drive activity.

Then, the blue screen flashes and it starts to boot again. This cycle will repeat unless I shut it down. I'm 1/2 way through as speed-reading course, so on the blue screen, I can make out "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

I then set the system to boot from CD, loaded Norton's emergency boot disk, and it says basically it can't figure out what file system is loaded on the C drive.

A CMOS Hard drive self test results in #1 - 07 Fail.

I ran chkdsk /r from the Windows boot disk as suggested on the HP site. It made it 50% through the process and reported, "..drive may have an unrecoverable error."

    What now?

you have a hard drive failure of the first order, and apparently it's the sectors that hold the system files...time for a new drive, unfortunately..you can recover data with a special service, no doubt.

How can i get a free download of windows 8.

there is no such thing as a free download of a microsoft product
you may get a disc for win 8 but to make it work you will have to buy the licence to register it and that is as costly as buying the disc to start with
the only free operating systems are LINUX--ubantu and it is far better than microsoft when you get the hang of uing it

Your Model of Aspire has a different battery release method, see attached pic on how to do it. This is a pic from your User Manual, you can download it from here Download Acer Aspire E1 572

. I suspect that the information you have been given regarding battery removal and passwords refers to removing the cmos battery as in a PC in the hope that it will clear Bios activated passwords.

Burning movies on the computer , playback fine on two computeers , will not play on ONN portable player used DVD-R

Burning dvd\'s is always a crapshoot when you have multiple machines. Computer drives are more tolerant on playback - the problem lies with your other, independent playback units. That is why in your main viewing area it is important that you have a few units so that if disk does not play in one machine, it will play on another. Has to do with the individual differences and calibrations of the machines involved. Store bought dvd\'s have less problems because their laser reflectivity is always higher than disks you burn, and therefore, easier to read properly. Price of the unit has no reflection on ability to properly read the disk. Sometimes and often, a cheaper machine will work better with copies - you never know.

Removing bluetooth chip

Without knowing what the desktop computer motherboard is, I\'d only be guessing as to location of Wi-Fi chipset.
However even if I knew the motherboard manufacturer name, and model number; the point is Moot.

A) You remove that Wi-Fi chip, and kiss the motherboard goodbye.
It\'s designed into the circuitry of the motherboard.

Isn\'t going to be jumper wires taking it\'s place, and making connections to circuit traces on the motherboard.

B) Do you have a wireless router?
Dunno.
Do you have a wireless connection set up?
No.

You can use just a LAN connection. (Hard wired)

C) Suggest if having a Bluetooth option on your motherboard is not an option then use a different motherboard that doesn\'t have that option.

Don't start up

check that all removable media is removed from computer, flash drives etc,if this message still appears the reinstall your os, there are several reasons for this error. You may have to replace your hard drive if that is the issue- you would know because after reinstall (if it makes it thru it) it will only crash again, this is much too big of a subject to sum it all up here and now, good luck... more questions just ask
