I have this problem too. I called Sony and went through some possible fixes with them that didn't work. I tried uploading through the internet, and also by PC with a USB stick. Nothing works. They said try again in a couple of days, if that don't work I will have to mail in my system and pay $ 149 to get it fixed. I've decided to sell it once I fix it and buy the newer slim version... email me at [email protected] if you can think of another solution.

SOURCE: while doing the automatic update it stops and says

This may have something to do with your internet connection. It may be because the connection is poor or you need to update another way. This used to happen to me alot until i moved the router closer. Try going to settings->System Update.

8002F997

- This error is caused by an issue with updating the PlayStation 3 firmware by USB drive. Ensure there are no problems with the USB drive. Download the firmware update to the USB drive again to ensure the firmware file is not corrupt. Try the installation of the firmware again. If all else fails, update firmware over the network.

What dose error code 8002f998 mean on a ps3

Do you actually mean 8002F994 or 8002F997?

8002F994 - To many people downloading the update just sit back until the morning
around 5am - 11am and you should be able to get it.

8002F997 - Trying to Update the Firmware, copying to a file and installing from a USB
drive failed.

Because I found nothing of this error. Please check and let me now if it really is 8002F99.

Every time its gets to 62% is says an error with (8002F997) ive tired the method by swiching the media sever to disable but that didnt work. what eles do i do

Error code "8002F997" means your PS3 is having issues updating your system software directly via internet. As a workaround you'll use external storage media, such as a USB thumb drive, to transfer the software to your PS3

1. Requirements

- A USB cable (not necessary if using a USB thumb drive)
- A PC with Internet access
- Storage media or a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive

2. Downloading and saving the software

- Plug in your USB drive to your computer, and create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data. Create a folder named "PS3" on the storage media/USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named "UPDATE".

- Download the update data from

http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2011_0310_91ee193a2fa921a6fce780fc40236e3b/PS3UPDAT.PUP

and save it in the "UPDATE" folder.

Note:

Be sure to save the update data as noted below. If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3 will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

-> Location: Save in the "PS3" folder > "UPDATE" folder
-> File name: Save as file name "PS3UPDAT.PUP".

3. Updating the PS3 software

Note:

Do not turn off the PS3, or remove the USB drive, during the software update!

- Insert the USB drive/storage media into the PS3
- On your PS3, from Home Menu (second icon from the left) -> System Update ->Select [Update via Storage Media].

The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.

How to fix error 8002F997

The 8002F997 code is a data corruption error . Before you go and replace the hard drive you will need to try and download the update from a different IP address. That means take your PS3 to a friends house and then download the update from the Sony website. If that does not stop the error from appearing then unfortuantly you will have to replace the hard drive with a new one. If your PS3 is under warranty then you should be able to get it fixed for free.

I try to update the system to 3.56 and it constantly present the error 8002F997 at 70%. It also says that the data is corrupted. What should I do?

Take your ps3 to a friend's house and log on to his wifi. Then retry the update. I got the same error code when I updated to 3.56. It took me over a week (all without the use of my ps3) to find this solution online. But it worked perfectly.
