Hi I called 1-800-628-8458 (the number in the manual) after trying several of the methods shown here. None worked. your dumbbell needs to be on a flat surface, no roll the dumbbell over to where the weight is facing the floor and the base is up in the air. With both hands lift the base and gently shake, the weight should fall out. Put the base back on the floor face up and inspect the grooves where the weight plates go for any debris. Clean this area if you find debris. Now you will need a pen or pencil with your weight. Grab your weight, still facing down and you will see a black release button on both sides on the inside of the weight. It is in between the metal dial and the inner part of the weight. Now press down on that button with your pen or pencil and start turning the dial (caution: the weight plates are going to fall out) keep turning until all of the plates are out. Do the same thing for the other side. Now grab each plate and put it back on the base where it goes, the smallest plate on the outside to the largest plate on the inside, make sure the small metal piece on the bottom of each plate is facing away from the inside of the base. Do this for all of the plates. Now back to the dumbbell. Grab your pen or pencil again and press down on the black release button and turn the dial to where the number 5 or lowest weight is selected where it reads Bowflex. Do this for both sides. Now grab your dumbbell and carefully put it back into the base. It is important that you put the dumbbell down straight, avoiding any shifting in plates. I hope this helped.

Hi there, I wanted to add my solution to these as I bought a set of second hand bowflex dumbbells only to find one of them wouldn't turn. The dail kept sticking or just not turning. After hitting goggle and coming up blank i turned to the tool box lol I set the bar to 5lb both sides and removed the handle, leaving all the weights in the base, I then removed the weights from the base one by one. Once the base was empty I replaced the empty handle onto the empty base and tried to turn the knob, it wouldnt turn, on the base there are two metal hooks, these stop you pulling the handles out In between weight settings, the metal hook on the base was hitting the metal disk (which has many hooks all around it) on the handle. I lifted the handle off Swaped sides and it still was hitting the metal base hook. If you undo the 6 screws on the underside of the base and pull apart the two halfs you will find a large black square which is held in place by 2 more screws, remove these and pull out this square, you will now have access to the underside of those two metal hook (which are held in place by two screws each) undo these a little and push back on the hooks and retighten these screws, turn the base over and replace the handle to see if the dial will turn freely on the base. Replace all the screws, re fix the two base halfs together, sit the weights down in the base, place the handle back and turn that dail Hope this helps someone.

I had the same problem and followed the suggestions here but it didn't work. However I did fix my problem by checking the orientation of the plates on the side that wasn't working. I discovered that my grandchildren had removed some of the plates and put them back in backwards. It's not that obvious but it's so simple to fix.

you do not know how easy this was and why it is not published in the BOWFLEX Manual or anywhere else on all of these FIX IT Sites... Thank you - there were my sons weights and have been stuck for 2 years while he has been at college, just graduated, moved home and I told him I fixed it and he is ecstatic and yet feels silly that he did not find your answer and those buttons earlier!

Wow, thank you so much! Have only used these a few times and have really wanting to start using them again. Looked all over and finally found your answer, fixed in just a couple short minutes! Was so easy I even showed my teenage boy how to fix if I'm not around. Caveat, be sure you aren't holding the weights up in the air when you press the button and turn the dial, the weight will fall on your foot if you aren't careful.

I had the same problem on one side only. I looked at the other weights and realized the weights were turned around the wrong way therefore locking and not letting me turn the handle. Thanks for my 10 year old. Problem solved. They work find now.

I had this problem with just one side of my weights. I pulled the handle out, then pulled out all of the weight discs and found one of my daughters tiny bracelet beads was keeping a disc from sitting down in its slot fully. So before dismantling just try checking inside and clearing out any debris.

SOURCE: once the dumbell is on

Try setting the handle in the plates back onto the carrier(bottom). Lightly tap on each plate that is stuck. Now push the plates down (vertically) onto the bottom carrier. Now try turning the dial (side that was stuck). It worked for me. Have my 1090 plates were stuck on the handle. Good luck

SOURCE: weights fall off dumbell after

Hello,
sorry about the short suggestion in advance. What it seems to me is that the weight is not locked in place, are you sure you are not forgetting something? check the user manual that your doing it correctly.
(if this is not a satisfactory response, and it probably is not, you may talk to another expert with the Work with another expert link below without any additional cost, thought I'd throw in my 2 cents)
Thanks and I hope you get it fixed. Ekse

Selector knob spins, no clicks, does not select the weights. The metal disk near the handle does not move.

1. Check to assure that the ******** handle is fully depressed into the ******** base. If not fully depressed, the locking mechanism will not be released and may be keeping the adjustment knobs from rotating. 2. Check to see if any weight plates have been put into the base assembly backwards with the "support ******" facing the grip of the ******** handle. All weight plates must have the selection ****** facing away from the grip of the ******** handle. 3. Check to see if there is any dirt, debris or other obstruction in the ******** base. You may need to remove the weight plates from the base to accomplish this check. Remember to put each weight plate back in its appropriate location with the selection ****** facing away from the ******** grip.

Selecttech 1090 Dumbbells: the end caps that adjust the weight are stfrozen, ...

Just call Bowflex. If you don't want to call here's the solution. There is a reset button on the bottom of the handle. Take the handle out, place on the floor side ways, depress the square button and turn to 5 lbs. Whatever weights that were on handle will fall out. Place the weights back into the holder. Make sure they are positioned correctly then put the handle back. Then test by dialing up different weight settings and lifting the ******** out of the holder. You should be back in business. If that doesn't work call Bowflex which you should do anyway.

The selecttech dumbell adjuster will not move. It says there is 7.5 lbs on the bar and there is actally only 2.5 lbs. The adjuster wheel will not turn. How do you fix it?

Push the button on the bottom of that releases the adjuster to spin. Set both to sides to 5, put all the weights back and your ready to place it back and select a weight.

I put one the first weight and locked it in i didn't know that you had to put all six and then lock it in. How do i take the one i put on off and start over

You should be able to take off the plates by turning them the opposite direction as putting them on. If you look at the plate you'll see the grooves that lock each one together. You just need to twist the plate you want off and twist it out of the grooves. Once out of the grooves it will turn back to normal, releasing the tension on the bands inside. You can then just slide it off the bar. The perm attached 5# plate tends to turn too. You need that one to be stationary. If you can't do it alone, have someone hold the perm 5# plate steady as you turn 'off' the additional plates.
