Can you offer some advice ? My DHR 1000 suddenly started fast forwarding in the play mode. I couldn`t stop it.
Any button I push on the machine resulted in fast forward ! UGH.
However, when using my editing program on my attached PC, I am able to control all functions, except eject tape.
Any suggestions ? I`d greatly appreciate your help.

Index marks work when the record function is activated, it puts a signal at the start of the recording. So when you put several tv shows on one tape, you can find them. Most video's have a scan button or index button, sometimes it's on a menu. When activated the video will go into fast forward or reverse till it finds an index mark. It will then go into play mode. Some videos will stop playing after a short period and the start searching again, unless you press play. Others have index numbers so you can search for the third recording for example. Commercial videos films etc do not have index marks on.
The timer/display control IC501, located on the FM 26 board (right behind the display tube) is likely bad. the part number is 8-759-368-84.It will NOT be an easy part for an average consumer to replace. You would be better off looking for a complete FM 26 board A7066705A.
The idler wheel (that only drives the tape in play or scan modes) is
slipping too much (very common problem). Try verify this by
putting the tape in play then immediately press the fast fwd or rewind
buttons to scan the tape. On older machines, the idlers used
rubber friction tires - on newer ones, a clutch. Either replace
the tire or increase the spring tension on the clutch.
Hope Ya Fix It.
