Compaq Persario V2000 Black (very dark) Display

Hello Bigkahn, The problem you have is related to the power inverts that powers on a small fluorescent light on the bottom of the actual LCD pannel. The "display" is composed of mainly 2 parts. One is the TFT active matrix that is build up by using many transistors. There are 3 of them for each pixel, each transistor displaying one basic color (RGB code red-green-blue) and 3 of them, like i said, forming a single pixel. They don't produce light by themselves they only filter the light that pass through the TFT pannel. So if a transistor displays "green" it will do that by filtering the light that comes from the fluorescent lamp i was talking before. It produces white light so therefore the transistor pannel will filter the coresponding wave lenght to block anything else than "green". (white light is a combination of all spectrum lenghts) Therefore in your case, if you light up the display using an external light, you may see something on it because the pannel will try to filter the light you give to it. This shows that the actual transistor matrix is working. Your problem is like i said, related with the power inverter. It'a small device inside your laptop that will raise the tension given by the batteries to about 2-3000volts needed to fire up the fluorescent light (some kind of "neon"). If it doesn't work that light woun't come on and the display woun't light up therefore the transistors on the pannel woun't have anything to filter and display on the screen. This problem can happen because of either a faulty connection between the inverter and the fluorescent lamp, or the inverter to the mainboard. Another cause can be the hardware failure of the actual inverter that is preventing it to raise the tension to the specified values. Either of these will require you to have your laptop checked at a service center because we are talking about tensions ranging 2-3000Volts and sensible component. This shouldn't be an expensive repair because the actual pannel (the screen) is working fine and all that needs to be done is to check the inverter or replace some components relating to it. If you have further questions please feel free to reply to this. Good luck.
