Re: not accepting paper
Check the paper feed path for obstructions like objects that may have fallen in. Tip the machine onto its back then almost upside down and give it a bash a few times to try and dislodge anything that has fallen in.
You can try sticking the vacuum hose in to the feed tray to **** out a foreign object and the last try is to feed an A5 piece of thick card (like off the back of a shorthand pad) through the feed path the wrong way. Start at the exit rollers and feed the card back through the mechanism. Take care to keep about an inch away from the right hand side as there is a sensor flag in that corner and you don't want to snap it off.
If nothing comes out, get a service manual from this guy and remove the ASF to get better access to see what is in the way. You can then also remove and clean the pick up roller before re-assembling.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Facing towards front of the printer, on the back of it you have raiser - paper support panel, with side slider on the left hand, push slider towards left in full.
Paper accepted by this printer is all standard grades, like A4, L4 and fall in these dimensions:
width min/max - 76mm to 216mm (3" to 8.5") lenght min/max - 127mm to 432mm (5" to 17")
Printer will accept paper weight between 60g and 180g, that meant that all standard weight of paper including cardstock will be accepted, printer as well will print photo and envelopes.
• The paper is loaded against the right side of the paper support. • The paper guide rests against the left edge of the paper.
1. Put paper long way vertical on raiser (paper support), about 80 to 100 pages of standard paper will fit there (depends on thisckness), 2. Push paper against right side 3. Adjust width with left hand slider. Do not buckle the paper!
After print paper is ejected at front bottom slot, printer side up. if you use photpaper or gloss paper, remove it immediatelly as need longer drying time and will get smudget by next printsheet.
You can find information with pictures in your manual on page 13/14.
turn on/off, unplug, plug in, should reset configs.
take all the paper out, put half as much back in.
check the rollers to make sure no paper or particles are stuck preventing from accepting paper.
go to applications folder for your computer, dbl click printer icon for make of printer. check settings. print 'test document and clean cartridge heads', this should ensure proper printing formats.
lastly, go to web site of printer model and check site for trouble shooting if this does not work above.
hope this helps and good luck
That is a fairly fragile printer, if you pack them in luggage they put other bags on top which bends the frame of the printer so that paper can't pass thru anymore. The only repair is to replace the entire print engine which costs more than a new printer.
You need to clean the paper path. Use rubbing alcohol, on long cotton swabs and lint free cloth, to clean the slide path and EVERY roller. The rollers get a dust buildup on them after time and become slippery.
you can change it on the fly as you print or go to the start/settings/printers/ (then open your printer ) on the printer menu at the top .... select printer /printer preferences and make the changes you want
This is usually do to a sensor, your correct on that, thers usually a plastic piece that indicates theres paper and its broken or worn.
The other thing is that it may be the little rubber grabber is worn and not grabbing the paper, so the printer thinks thers no paper because nothings going through. These parts can be orderd but are usually costly depending on the printer. If its under warranty, take it back.
Also, check the trey and make sure it isnt a I.D.10.T error and you just set the paper to legal or something. I've made that mistake before.
