How do I change the belt on my bissell 6594c vacuum?

If yours looks like this one: http://www.bissell.com/ProductDetail.aspx?id=9778
lay the vacuum upside down, remove the screws that hold the plate over the brush roll, or some models just have tabs. Remove the plate and then take the brush roll out of the body. Place the new belt on the metal motor shaft and loop the brush roll pulley thru. Pull forward and place the roller into the housing, turn by hand a few rotations to make sure the belt is tracking straight. Replace the bottom plate and secure with either screws or click tabs in place. Flip vacuum over and it's ready for use. Make sure to keep your filters as clean as possible otherwise you will lose suction. You can wash any foam filters in the sink, but let them completely dry before re installing them; do not wash pleated heap filters, see owners manual for care and replacement.

How do you change the belt

on the bottom of the vacume you should see about 4 screws ( philips ) that hold the plate in place, remove the screws and plate and this will expose the motor shaft, belt and roller ( you should also see the broken belt there two ) -- pop out the roller ( pull straight up ). put new belt onto the motorspindle and then onto the roller, snap roller back into place ( note: on the edges of the roller it is somewhat keyed to only fit into the vacume a certain way ), replace the the plate and screws and you are good to go. also while you are getting dirty -- clean the air filter and examine the hose between the floor roller and the suction hose for dirt build up and debris.

Dyson animal is giving me fits

Hi,

Try this quick repair and see if this fixes your Dyson in terms of not going in the upright position: This is a frequent problem that we see come in on Dysons. If this doesn't fix it, please feel free to just use the clarification request and let me know this didn't fix it. The suction problem is happening because when the machine is put in the upright position it diverts the suction from the floor to the hose automatically, and it's probably stuck in between the lower part and the hose part.

Step 1.
Turn power off and unplug the machine.
Tilt the machine backward to a 45° angle.

Step 2.
  • Hold the section under the airway inspection pipe.
  • The black forward lock button must be held down simultaneously, otherwise the valve carriage will not move.
  • Pivot this section upwards until it clicks into place.
  • Release the black button once the valve pipe carriage is moved up into place.

    f5fcc76.jpg

    Step 3.

    • Tilt the machine forward.
    • The cleaner head should now slide underneath the part you have just clicked into place.
    • The machine should now stand upright.

In terms of the machine not picking up, this could be caused by a few things.

The first thing you should check is the filter. The DC14 has a motor filter that is recommended to be washed every 90 days. Here's how to access this filter:

    • To remove the washable filter: Remove the clear bin; and cyclone top from your machine by pressing the cyclone release button.
    dc14_cyclone_removal_01.gif
    • Lift clip to remove the filter from the machine.*
    dc14_filter_removal_01.gif dc14_filter_removal_02.gif
*The post-motor filter located under the clear bin should last the lifetime of the machine and does not need to be washed.

There are two different types of filters that were used on the Dyson DC14, and One part filter, and a two part filter. Here's instructions on how to clean both of them:

    ONE PART FILTER:
    • Wash the filter in cold water only. (Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).
    • Repeat the steps shown below until the water runs clear.

    • Wash the filter in cold water only. (Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).

    • Wash the filter in cold water only. (Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).
    • Repeat the steps shown below until the water runs clear.

    • Leave to dry in a warm place for 24 hours. DO NOT dry the filter inside a clothing dryer, hair dryer, microwave the filter, place the filter in an oven, or near a naked flame.
    • Please ensure the filter and filter case are completely dry before refitting into the machine.
    1_part_filter_drying.jpg TWO PART FILTER:
    filter_2.jpg
    • Wash the filter in cold water only. Please DO NOT use detergent on the filter, or wash the filter in a dishwasher or in a washing machine.
    • Repeat the steps shown below until the water runs clear.
    • Leave the filter to dry in a warm place for 12 hours, until completely dry.
    • DO NOT dry the filter inside a clothing dryer, hair dryer, microwave the filter, place the filter in an oven, or near a naked flame.
    dc14_filter_01.gif dc14_filter_05.gif dc14_filter_06.gif
The filter should be washed at least once every 6 months.

Also, since you have removed the bottom plate, a common problem on the Dyson's is when this plate is reinstalled. It is very easy to put the plate on incorrectly, which prevents the brushes from hitting the carpeting. This can seriously decrease the pick up on carpets. Check the bottom plate to make sure that it was put back on properly. Here's pictures of both the correct, and incorrect way to reinstall the bottom plate:

Here's a picture of the WRONG way to install the bottom plate. Notice the gap in between the two housings:

    9739790.jpg
Here's another picture, that is the RIGHT way to install the soleplate:

    8b953d0.jpg
I would say probably 6 times out of 10 this is the problem with the customers machine. If you checked the soleplate and it is installed correctly, move on to the second possible problem.

I hope that this was helpful to you. Please feel free to use the Clarification Request form here on Fixya if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

Water flowing out bottom of steamcleaner

It sounds like one of the internal tubes is loose or has a leak. You'll need to open up the black plate (the plate where you place the water tank on top of). Inside there, you'll be able to see all the tubes and hopefully track down which one is leaking or loose. Some of the tubes have clips to hold them in place. Perhaps one of those came loose.

remove 4 screws fromthe bottom of the vac. this will allow you to remobe the baseplate and expose the belt & roller. put the new belt on the roller first and then pull it to the motor shaft. Note: remove the roller and the housing under it to clean out any debris buildup. re-install baseplate and screws.
