My aunt just purchased a compac laptop and never used a computer before. I told her I would help her get started but I've never used a laptop. Is it easy to set up? Is there any sites for instructions to get it running? Hopefully it won't take long. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
She said there is a virus scan cd to put into it.
Its pretty easy to set up just make sure that before you go online you install an antivirus and firewall . I would reccomend http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html for antivirus its free and for a firewall I would recommend http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,7228-order,1-page,1-c,firewalls/description.html . Both are free and easy to setup

You can remove or change the Window's User oradministrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access todownload the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD.
Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot upthe laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions.
There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CDwhich contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removalprogram.
Click on one of these links todownload HIREN'S BOOTCD :-
try to boot up in safe mode, keep pressing f8 till a menu appears and use the arrow keys to select safe mode. Then press enter. Once the windows login screen appears choose Administrator to log in. Then click the start menu button (the microsoft flag button) in the bottom left of the screen and click control panel, choose user accounts, then choose add or remove user accounts. Click yes to allow , then click on your daughters aunts account and click remove password. Now restart the pc and you will not have to enter a password.
If you dont have the administrator account to log into you will have to reply with the exact make and model of computer as you may have a recovery partition to restore the pc back to how it was when it was first purchased
replacing the mobo is much cheaper that to purchase a new computer but purchasing a new computer is much better than replacing your mobo. because in the near future, you need to upgrade your system for better use.
webcam has own microphone which use USB like camera. Windows has own port for microphone.
go to software options which you are using with camera and change recording device to different one " it should be named like "USB mic" or something like that.
i would check to software included to camera too
If I am correct you enter the passwords as new first person.
If this is the case, don't for get what you/aunt use as your access name/password?
So when you turn on next time, you /aunt uses the details entered? Just remember details, incase I am right.

turn on the computer that has the printer attached.
configure computer to share (start/settings/printer-faxes/right click on default printer/select sharing tab/ select share this printer/ apply settings/OK)(This computer must also be connected to the router so your laptop will see it as a network device)
on wireless laptop, add printer
when prompted select network printer.
For my wifes ease of use I purchased for $20.00 network magic which auto configured all my devices and monitored any access to my wireless router so I could choose who could access my open router.
These speakers would work great. First question is: Do you already own these speakers, or would you be buying them? If you already own them, then yes, use them, if not, a more economical solution would be the Bose Companion 2 speakers here: http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_PRODUCT_PAGE_EVENT&product=companion2_multimedia_index
These are about half the price, and have exceptional clarity for someone like your aunt. They also will allow her flat panel TV to plug and play very easily.
Please let us know if you need any additional information.
Best regards and kudos for helping your aunt out!
