I'm going to assume you're using XP for this but if it's Vista it's a very similar process. I'm also going to assume that you already have the cable attached between TV and Laptop.

First you need to right click on your desktop and click properties. When the display properties applet opens select the right hand tab (settings) and you should now see two boxes representing your monitors.

Click on the right hand one which should be your TV and below that put a check in the box that says 'extend the desktop onto this monitor'.

Alternatively you can set your TV to be your main monitor by using the other check box but I wouldn't recommend this if your TV is CRT.

As for resolution, the slider should only go up to settings that your TV can handle.

Hope this helps,

erch.

Make sure that the video card of your toshiba laptop has a tv out feature. If it has, your tv should be functioning as your laptop monitor already.

Hi,

Assuming that you have hooked the cables right, you need to press the key combination Fn + F? to activate the external video output of the Toshiba laptop. The "?" would depend on the exact model of your Toshiba. Additionally, there would be a blue lettered indicator on one of the top keys of keyboard indicating a monitor.

Incidentally, it might be worth mentioning that most TV can not operate on too high a setting of the Resolution of your Display Properties and therefore would require that the laptop's Screen Resolution be lowered down when used in conjunction with an external display device such as a monitor. At other times, the Screen refresh Rates would need to be lowered down also.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

You would be better trying to connect from the laptop VGA to the TV Scart. But you will still need to set your laptop up to output a screen resolution that the TV can display.

How do I connect my Toshiba Laptop to my Sharp Aquos to watch Netflix?

you need to see if you have a pc in (vga )on your tv and then you need to see if your laptop has a VGA out then you need a VGA Video Monitor Cable HD 15 Male to Male cable bettween the lap top and the TV.
then you need to go to control settings on your laptop (depending on what operating system you are running) then display settings-settings and set it to go to your tv .

Can you help with connecting a laptop VGA to a philips hdtv lcd (model #32pf7421d) with a component cable? The laptop recognizes that it is connected, but nothing comes up on the TV except for...

Check your laptop with the same VGA cord on some projector or a monitor. If it works there, then there is a problem with your TV's VGA switching circuit. If it does not work, then there is problem with either the VGA cord or laptop's VGA port. To rule out the possibility VGA cord , replace it with new one. Please give the feedback for this so that further diagnosis can be done, if you are comfortable with the TV's electronics.

Make sure your VGA cable works by using it on another computer or desktop just to rule out the possibility of a defective VGA cable. If the cable is good, then boot your computer as normal without the VGA cord and then once it is booted up, plug the VGA cable in, go to the start menu and type "multiple" into the search box. then click on "Set up your computer to use multiple monitors" and you should be able to fix it using those settings.
Hope this helps, Nathan Taylor

I have a inspiron1300,and i wondered if it is possibe to connect it to my philips hdready tv.am sure which cable to use

You never mentioned what model Philips TV you have, however I've researched several and most seem to have a VGA video port in the back of them. If you have one of these (15 pin D connector) on the back of your TV you should be able to purchase a corresponding VGA cable (you'll want female pins on one side of the cable and male pins on the other side) and plug one side into the VGA port on your laptop and the other cable into the TV. Then use your TV remote to select that input. Should work fine!
See item 8 in the attached user guide link to see what I'm talking about. http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/4/42pfl3403_98/42pfl3403_98_qsg_eng.pdf
I hope this response helps you out.
I wish you the very best of luck! If I can help you further, please let me know.

I have a philips 37PF9946/12 tv and am struggling to connect my laptop to it, please help the laptop and tv both have vga connections x

The laptop should connect to the tv through the vga port. Just get a cable that is the correct gender on both ends and make sure the mode in the computer is set so that it outputs the vga signal from the graphics card. Maybe look in the control panel for settings.
