If it is a mobile not receiving sms then you need to go to phone settings menu and to sms settings, alternatively to messages menu, then to sms settings, depending on the phone.
If you are not getting voice messages on a mobile then you need to call your provider and set up your voice mail box.
If it is a landline with message capabilities, then you have to set up your answering machine on phone.
We can be more specific if you give us make and model of your phone and details on reasons why you cannot receive messages.

You may need to re-enter service centre number in following menu:
Menu/Messaging/Settings/Text messages/Service centre.
Here is Orange service centre info in UK, if you are in UK get info from there otherwise give us your location.
SMS service numbers for uk are +447973100973
or +447973100974. depending on area, try both and send an sms to yourself, see if it works.
If both numbers do not work (and you are in UK). Then call Orange and get right number for your area.
You can contact them dialing 150 on mobile and getting option to talk to operator, or following the instructions in this page. Once you have right number put it in your phone, this should solve the problem.

If after finding right number , changing it and restarting the phone, you find that the phone still does not work on messages, then I suggest resetting your k550i to factory settings. Do a backup of all your data inside the phone, because this operation will erase data in phone internal memory (not sim or sd).
Then go to Menu/Settings/Master reset and do master reset.
Try the service number first.
