You need to find out wich soundcard is inside your computer. If it is a brand pc or a laptop just repost the problem with correct model (eg: dell optiplex 800, Ibm 600, etc.). If not you need to open the cabinet and check which serial numbers are printed on your sound card, or on your motherboard if soundcard is integrated with motherboard.

reinstall your sound card driver using the driver cd that came with the system. download Media Codecs. if same hing happened. you an download VLC player to play you video file instead of using media player.

Try reinstalling your audio drivers, or use system restore to undo the update if yo are sure of that. Reinstalling the proper drivers should generally fix it though. In case you don't have them anymore, try the manufacturer's website or a driver finder program.
You have to install the audio driver. That's a common thing that if you install a fresh copy of your operating system, meaning you started from scratch. So eventually, some of your system drivers must be reinstalled.
This will create a swsetup folder in C drive ("C:\swsetup\sp34200")
