Your radio maybe bad.
Use a boom box radio and connects wires to car speakers and turn on the boom box radio. If you have good sound to the car speaker, than car radio has gone to heaven.

My car radios, M7 and 930 Ruf Slant Nose, have the same problem.
German cars & radios are not built as good as the Japanese cars.

Hello, Donald -

Have you thought to check with a Mercury auto dealer in your area to find out the right radio activation code for the radio? The dealer may be able to obtain the code using the VIN.

Best wishes.

There are many stores that sell car radios that can be used to replace factory installed radios. Auto parts stores even wall mart, or best buy. They have adapter kits. Just hook up battery and antenna.

I change my bmw 1998 728i radio it came from a 740il but it won't work in my car it need a code can u help me please

You'll need the vin from the 740il or perhaps a code on the radio or even the s/n ?n the radio and a dealer can help you. You may have to indicate to the dealer the radio wasn't stolen/hot.

Radio will not turn on for 30 mins in the morning, then works fine for the rest of the day. Next morning 30 min wait again. I have reset to factory settings Why?

not knowing what kind of radio you have, it almost sounds like you may have bad solder connections inside the radio.

Tricky really suggest getting a bentley repair manual well worth the money for the do it yourselfer. The issue is complex on different vehicles due to so many of them having wiring and electrontics tied into radios and then the computers. Bentley makes detailed wiring schematics also really suggest using mutimeters instead of test lights. If you go to the trunk check at the speakers write down the wire colors on both speakers then pull the door panels do the same that will give you left and right and of course front and back. Use a multimeter to test the remaining wires hopefully that should only be two for power and ground. Hope this helped.

Could have blown a fuse, or someone could have messed with the radio, or it's wiring when the battery was off, activating a Delco-Lok anti theft system.
