I can not find the license code and name when I set up the program,please tell me where i can find these,

What is the Model of the print server, does N4000e or something similar sound familiar?

I am not clear what license code you are referring to; please provide more detail of what what actions you took that required a license code.

Unfortunately, you haven't provided any details as to the steps you've thus far taken. So lets start at the beginning and solve your problem step-by-step.

Step 1 Locate the Queue name, or Port name, of your printer.

Click here for instructions on locating the Queue name since you are using a DPR-1260.

Step 2 After you locate the Queue or Port name, you will want to write it down. (You can also highlight it with your cursor, and copy the info. This will allow you to paste it in to the wizard later on.)

Step 3 Click Start and then Control Panel. Locate the Printers icon. Click the Add A Printer icon.

Step 4 Click Add a Local Printer. Use this option only if you don't have a USB printer. (Windows automatically installs USB printers when you plug them in).

Step 5 Select Create New Port. For the port type, select standard TCP/IP Port. Click Next.

Step 6 Click the drop down menu for Device Type and choose TCP/IP Device.

In the Hostname or IP Address field, input the ip address of your print server. (The default address for most of D-Link's print servers is 192.168.0.10).

The PORT NAME field is purely for identification purposes. This allows you to discern the port you've created later on for configuration.

Step 7 Windows will attempt to detect the printer. Please allow a few moments for the operating system to do this.

Step 8 Highlight the radio button labeled Custom and press the Settings button.

Step 9 Click the radio button labeled LPR.

The LPR Queue Name field will now become available. Here you will need to enter the Queue or Port name that you acquired in Step 1.

Check the box labeled LPR Byte Counting Enabled. Click OK.

Step 10 At this point, you'll be brought back to the previous window. Click Next.

Step 11 Windows will now attempt to detect and install the printer driver. If Windows is unable to detect the printer and find a matching driver, you will be given the option of selecting a printer from a list of available printer drivers.

Step 12 In the left window you have a list of manufacturers, and on the right side you have the various models. Select the model that pertains to your printer. Click Next.

Step 13 Next you will be prompted to give the printer a name. You can leave the default Windows name, or you can create your own if you wish. Click Next.

Step 14 Once the printer successfully installs you will be given the option to print a test page. If the test prints then the print server is configured properly. Click Finish.

Is wps54g wireless print router compatible with windows 7: how do I get it installed


Contrary to the on-line advice that I have found, the Linksys wireless print server WPS54G is compatible with Windows 7. It is the installation program that is not compatible. While not as bad as the early days of setting hardware dip switches, the print server must be installed manually. Following are the many steps that I took to install my WPS54G to work with Windows 7; lengthy, but worth it.


1. Connect your printer to the PC using a USB cable and USB port. Allow the printer to install. Print a test page. Even though you just installed the printer, check for an updated printer driver at the manufacturer's website. I did this late in the process before I could get the printer to work. It installed an HP universal driver.

2. Set the printer as the default.

3. If you do not know the IP address of your print server, access the router using your browser. See your manual for instructions. For a Linksys, type the default IP router address 192.168.1.1 into the browser address bar. If you have done this in the past, set up your router security. The default user name is left blank and the default password is admin.

4. Connect your print server to the PC using a USB cable and USB port.

5. On the router locate the DHCP Client Table and determine the IP address of the print server. You might have to refresh the table. The default is probably 192.168.1.78.

6. Access the print server using your browser and the IP address of the print server. The default user name is left blank and the default password is admin. Set up security to match the router, SSID, password, type of encryption, etc.

7. Go to "Devices and Printers" (from the start menu), on the default printer icon that you just installed, right click and open "Printer Properties." Click on the "Ports" tab.

8. Click on "Add Port." Select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click on "New Port." Click "Next." Add the IP address of the print server (probably 192, 168.1.78) and call the port whatever you want. Click "Next."

9. After the port configures and you get the "Port Settings" tab (you can also get there by clicking on "Configure Port), change the protocol to "LPR" and click "LPS byte counting enabled." Use "p1" or P2" etc. for the "queue name."

10. Disconnect the print server from the USB port and let it sit for 30 seconds.

11. Disconnect the printer from the USB port.

Hi,

Please note that PS121 does not require drives for its configuration. It can be configured manully using a browser:

Step 1:-

1.Connect the PS121 to the router & check the lights
2.Press the diag button with a paper clip, it should give a print out which should include a IP address (make a note of the IP address)
3.Open the browser & enter the IP address on the address bar, it should give you a prompt for a Username & password (Username = admin; password = password), this will show if PS is communicating with the network.
4. Make sure that all the firewalls are disabled (including windows firewall)

Step 2:- (For XP)

1. Go to control panel then go to printer and faxes.
2. Right click on the printer icon go to properties.
3. Click on the ports tab on the top.
4. Click on add port.
5. Select standard TCP/IP port and click on new port.
6. Press next.
7. Enter the IP address of the print server it will show you the port (IP_ip address).
8. Press next.
9. Select the second option custom and click on settings button.
10. Select the protocol as LPR; enter the queue name as q1.
11. Select LPR byte counting enable.
12. Click on ok and press next then click on finish.

Step 3:- (For Vista Computer):

1. Please confirm you are able to print by connecting the printer to the Vista computer directly.
2. Click Start - select Control Panel then switch it to Classic View from left side.
3. Double click on Printers & Click on 'Add a Printer'.
4. Select 'Add a local printer' & Click next.
5. Select 'Create a new port'.
6. Select 'Standard TCP/IP Port' as 'Type of port' then click 'Next'
7. Enter the IP Address of the Print Server in the 'Hostname or IP address' field.
8. Uncheck 'Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use' & Cilck next.
9. Select 'Custom' then Click on 'Settings' on the next dialogue box.
10. On the next dialogue box, select 'LPR' as the 'Protocol'.
11. Under the LPR Settings put in any name for the 'Queue Name'.
12. Check 'LPR Byte Counting Enabled' then click on OK and next.
13. Select the Manufacturer and the Model Number of the printer. If it is not available then click on 'Have Disk'. Click 'Next'.
14. Check 'Set as the default printer' and click next.
15. Try to print test page, it'll print.

Print server was turned on today and doesn't recognize printer. It has worked witout a problem for over a year when we switched to a newer print server program


HI, Follow the steps below to reconfigure the print server:

1. Now connect the printer to the USB port of the printserver and then the ethernet cable from the router to the Printserver ethernet port.
2. Press the diagonistic tool button on the printserver for 10 sec (All the lights will blink amber), you will recieve a print page with Port name,Ip address of the printer and other details.
3. The ip address will be given from the router,If no ip address, powercycle the router, printserver and the printer. Press the diagonistic tool button again.

Step 2:- (For XP)
1. Go to control panel then go to printer and faxes.
2. Right click on the printer icon go to properties.
3. Click on the ports tab on the top.
4. Click on add port.
5. Select standard TCP/IP port and click on new port.
6. Press next.
7. Enter the IP address of the print server it will show you the port (IP_ip address).
8. Press next.
9. Select the second option custom and click on settings button.
10. Select the protocol as LPR; enter the queue name as q1.
11. Select LPR byte counting enable.
12. Click on ok and press next then click on finish.
Step 3:- (For Vista Computer):

Netgear ps121 won't print


Possible reason why you cannot print with the print server is because the computer is not getting a valid IP from the router or a firewall is installed in the computer. You have to disable all firewalls installed in the computer.

For the print server setup, please follow the steps below:

Note: Before setting up the print server, make sure that you can print when printer is connected directly to the computer.

1. Wire the print server to router. Check the lights on it. It should have the ACT light on and the Error light off.

2. One way to test if the printer would work with the print server is to reset the print server for 3 to 5 seconds while it is powered on and after you release the button, the printer should automatically print the IP address of the print server.

Note: If the printer did not print, there is a possibility that they are not compatible. However, you may still continue to try to set up the print server.

3. Install the PS121 software.

a. Power on your computer, let the operating system boot up completely, and log in as needed.
b. Insert the Resource CD for the PS121 into your CD-ROM drive. The CD main page shown at the right will load.
c. Click Install Software.
d. Click Next and follow the software installation utility prompts to complete the software installation.
e. When prompted, restart your computer to complete the installation.
f. When your computer restarts, click Finish to run the Print Server Setup Wizard.

4. Run the Print Server Setup Wizard to Set Up a Fixed IP Address for the PS121.

a. The Print Server Setup Wizard screen should be displayed.
b. Click Next to proceed. The Print Server Wizard will now search your network for the PS121. If the Print Server Setup Wizard cannot find your PS121, check the network connections and status lights on the PS121.
c. The “Server Name” and the “IP Address” your network assigned to the PS121 are displayed. Click Next to proceed to the device name screen.
d. You can enter a descriptive Device Name and Domain Name or accept the defaults. Click Next to proceed to the IP Address configuration screen. The Print Server Wizard displays a recommended static IP address setting for the PS121. This is usually fine.
e. Click Next to proceed.
f. Click Finish to exit the Print Server Setup Wizard. This completes the configuration of the PS121 for operation on your network.
g. Click Yes to run the Add Printer Port Wizard. Follow the instructions in the next section for using the this wizard to set up each computer to use the PS121.

To set up each computer to use the PS121, please follow the instructions below:

1. Use the NETGEAR Add Printer Wizard to set up each PC to use the PS121.
a. When the Print Server Setup Wizard finishes, you are prompted to run the Add Printer Port Wizard. Click Yes to proceed. Alternatively, from the Windows Start menu NETGEAR Print Server program group, you can run the NETGEAR Add Printer Wizard.
b. After a short delay while the software searches the network for your PS121, the Printer Select window opens and displays the PS121 you have set up.
c. Click Next to proceed to the Port/Printer name screen. Take note of the printer model number listed.

2. Set up the correct printer driver for the printer port.
a. Click Next to proceed to the Port/Printer name screen. Take note of the printer model number listed.
b. Click Next to proceed to the Select Printer screen. If you see the exact printer model number listed as the printer model number from in the previous screen, click it to select it from the list.
c. If prompted, print a test page to verify operation of the printer and the PS121. Then, close any remaining Add Printer Port Wizard or Windows Add Printer Wizard windows.

Use the NETGEAR PS121 Mini Print Server Resource CD to run the Add Printer Port Wizard to set up each PC on you network that you want to use with the PS121. Select the port you added

Using standard TCP/IP Procedure (Windows XP/2000)


  1. Make sure your printer already has its drivers installed on all PC's prior to attempting to install this print server.
  2. Be sure also that your printer can print when it is connected directly to your computer.
  3. Click on Start go to Printers and Faxes.
  4. Right click your printer and go to Properties.
  5. Click on the Ports Tab on the top.
  6. Click Add Port. Select Create a new port: and select the Type of port: Standard TCP/IP Port, click Next.
  7. This will bring the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard, click Next
  8. Inthe field for Printer Name or IP Address: enter the IP address of thePrint Server and click Next. (You can get the IP address of your printserver by pressing the reset button on your device for 3 seconds thenit will print out it's status).
  9. Select Custom, click Settings.
  10. Under Protocol select LPR, and for Queue Name: type L1. Click Ok, then Next, and Finish.

Youshould be able to print on the device afterwards. You can refer to yourRouter's Wireless Settings and match them on the WPS54G so that theywould be able to communicate wirelessly.

Configuration of DP300u in a LAN over Windows 2000


You just need to installe the . Inset the Printer Driver CD. It will Autoplay. Click on install the Driver.
After successfully installation of Driver, Go to Start-->Setting--> Printers and Faxes

You can find your printer here.Right Click on Printer --> Click on Sharing --> Give the Printer Name in Share Name.

You can installe the printer on client Machine by following way:

Go to Start-->Setting--> Printers and Faxes--> Click on Add Printer --> Check mark on Network Printer-->Clickn on Browse printer. It will Automatically discover your printer. Just Right click on it and clickon connect.

NetGear PS121 Print Server Problem


Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:

1. Check physical connections.

a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet “i” LED on the front of the router should light up.
b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up.

2. Access the router's web-based utility.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default.

To reset the router:

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

3. Configure the router.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a cable connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings under Setup tab.
b. Select No for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Scroll down on the center page and look for the Router MAC Address section. Set it to Use computer MAC address and click on the Apply button.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a DSL connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings.
b. Select Yes for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Select Other on the Internet Service Provider drop down box.
d. Enter your ISP's username (username@ISPdomain) and password. Then, click on Apply.

4. Configure the wireless settings.

a. Click on the Wireless Settings under Setup.
b. Change the SSID to any unique name.
c. Scroll down, look for the Security Options settings and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
d. Set the Authentication type to "Automatic" and the Encryption Strength to "64bit".
e. Leave the Passphrase field blank, select Key 1 and enter a 10-digit number.

Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection.

f. Click Apply button to save the changes.
g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle.

5. Power cycle.

a. Power off the modem, router and computers.
b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking.
c. Power back the router and the computers. Check if it will be able to get online.

If you have wireless computers, you can connect them wireless to the router. Kindly follow the instructions below:

6. Connect wireless computer to the router.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 1, please follow the steps below:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer.
b. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
c. Click on the Advanced tab.
d. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK.
e. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Network. Please select your network and click on Connect. It will ask you for the network key.
f. Please type in the network key and then confirm it. Network key is the password you type on the key 1 of the wireless settings of the router.
g. Make sure not to enable IEEE and then click on Connect.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, please follow the steps below:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer.
b. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
c. Click on the Change Advanced Settings.
d. Click on the Wireless Networks tab remove all the preferred networks then click on OK.
e. Right click on the Wireless icon then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
f. Select your network and click on Connect.
g. It will ask you for the network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect. Network key is the password you type on the key 1 of the wireless settings of the router.

If you are using Windows Vista, please follow the steps below:

a. Click Start then select Connect To.
b. Connect to a network window will show up.
c. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
d. It will ask you for a network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

From the above configuration, please check if you can now access the Internet.

For the print server setup, please follow the steps below:

One page wasted before print out


Hi Ontheedge,

I really hate suggesting it is a Netgear issue, and dump it, Edge, but most of the posts I found on that Print Server is not good. I would check for a setting in the Manger software, but not sure where it is. These link suggest it is a Netgear issue.

Printer driver hangs on install


You get a ROOT HUB error when your USB port on your computer needs additional drivers. The print server drivers needs to configure your printer drivers. The only solution for this is CALL LINKSYS TECH SUPPORT. TELL THE TECHNICIAN THAT YOU HAVE A ROOT HUB ERROR. Linksys will send you ADDITIONAL DRIVERS for your root hub. UPDATE your ROOT HUB using the ADDITIONAL DRIVERS. Uninstall the WPSM54G from the add/remove programs. RUN SET UP COMPUTER AGAIN
