Sounds like you are suffering from VistaItis, where the api's and dll's are not making it happen. You may need to reinstall most of your driver sets..

Sounds like you have too many programs running at once, try to shut down programs that you are not using, this will open up more memory because video and music takes a lot of your 3mg memory. If it still does not work you will have to upgrade to higher memory. You must have 3GB memory, 3MB memory sound too small.

Why is my computer so slow and how do I fix it?

Many complaints I receive from clients have to do with slow performance from their computer. There are several reasons why this happens.
As updates and enhancements are added to Windows, it takes more memory to run the system. In addition, many new programs with lots of capability use more memory than their predecessors. Windows Vista is quite a system hog and needs at least 2 GB RAM to run (even though Microsoft might say differently). You should have at least 1GB to run Windows XP and 2 GB for Windows 7. I personally recommend 3GB for all 3 systems.

Assuming you have no malware running that is affecting performance, the next thing to check is what programs run at startup. From the command line, type MSCONFIG. The command line is accessed in XP by clicking START>RUN. In Vista and 7, the command line is just above the START button.

After opening the window, click on the STARTUP tab. Check out all the things that are running at startup. Do you need them? Probably not. You really need the antivirus programs running and that's about it. I suggest unchecking the items you don't recognize. Then restart your computer and see if all the things you need still run. If not, you can go back into MSCONFIG and recheck the things you need. You are not uninstalling programs by unchecking them--just telling them not to start.

The third thing you can do is go to the My Computer or Computer menu item and right click on the hard drive. Go to TOOLS and check your disk for errors. Next, run DEFRAG. Not only will this result in an increase in speed, it wil keep your file system healthy.

Toshiba m115-s1061 very slow on the internet. what can i do to make it faster

  1. Keep it cool. Despite its name, you lap is not the best place to put a laptop. Laptops generate a lot of heat, which can have a severe effect on your laptop's performance. Try not to use it in a hot room. Never set it on a bed, pillow, upholstery or anything else that is soft. Instead, place your laptop on a hard surface like a table. If you like using your laptop in bed or on the couch, try putting a book or a thick magazine in your lap and then setting the laptop on top of that. Every ten minutes or so, turn the book over so the surface never gets too hot. This will absorb the heat.
  2. Step2Shut down unneeded programs before using power-hungry software like games or large spreadsheets. The more programs you have running at the same time, the worse your computer's performance will be. Most computers have a lot of unneeded programs running in the background from the moment you boot up your computer. Shut them down manually using Ctrl+Alt+Delete, or download a freeware application that will shut them down for you. If you have Wndows Vista, you can also access the start up configuration by selecting "Run" from the accessories menu, then typing "msconfig" in the box

My laptop is extremly slow and it won't hold a charge longer than 15 minutes, it's a 3 year old toshiba. What can i do?

Obviously, your battery has degraded. You will have to purchase a new battery. And you can remove old programs that you dont use any more to free up space. Defragment the Hard disk to improve performance. Remove unwanted programs from startup. This will improve the speed of your PC

Acer Aspire 3050 Laptop running slow Changed Hard drive, Memory, and the motherboard It still run's slow, vista basic 2 X 512 pc2 533 could it be the power board? any one had this before? Thanks..

1st go through your 'programs and features' in your control panel and delete anything over around 100Mb unless it is necessary, a lot of ram is taken up by these programs even when they are not being run.

Is the computer high enough spec. to run vista.
This system is hungry in recourses you need a minimum of 2 gig of ram and a dual core processor for it to run vista at a decent speed.

I sit for minutes for a program to open

Well what you should do is take it in to a computer shop and have them look at it. Also your computer can run slow if a lot of your hard drive space is used. Also depends on what stuff you have on the computer and what you are using it for.

Win vista problem with ares ultra

If I can decipher what you mean, it sounds like you're using Windows Vista Ultimate, and it is reverting to Reduced Functionality Mode. This means the installation of Windows Vista that you're running failed to pass validation with Microsoft. Please see this page for Microsoft's steps to remedy this issue.
