What you can do is make a wide U-shaped sheet of baking foil and point the open end of the U in the direction you need a better signal.

Your Wifi router is unidirectional...this means that it radiates energy in all directions.  The tinfoil acts very much like a reflector in a torch and points the energy in the direction you want it to go.

You'll definitely get a stronger signal.  The transmitter in your computer may not be powerful enough to reach back to the router, in which case, repeat the tinfoil at the computer end.

It's scruffy, but it works.  You can always use coathangers as a frame and make it look arty if you need it permanently.

Extending the reach of youir wireless internet

To significantly increase your Wi-Fi coverage (often by up to 40 percent) is to add a wireless repeater or range extender. You should place this repeater at the outer (but good) range of your existing router's coverage and it should repeat the network signals between the existing router and any Wi-Fi computers and devices that wirelessly connect to the repeater.

Unfortunately the range on a G router is usually reliable to about 200 ft or so, depending on obstructions. There is no way to boost the 802.11g signal. You'd be looking at upgrading your router and card to 802.11n, which would give you increased range. .

Increase range of Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

They are really not designed for longer range but here are some ideas from people that have found ways to increase the range. Of course, any internal modifications void your warranty and can cause damage to your device and/or computer! So maybe you can just try the external wire tricks.

Bad WIFI reception

Yes. You can just deploy a Wireless Access Point or a Wireless Range Expander. What they do is they extend your signal from main router thus, if you're having low reception at one part of your house, deploy the Wireless Access Point there and it's gonna give you another excellent signal.

Wireless internet

Wireless range is pretty much limited to router placement and type (802.11N has longer range than 802.11B/G) so if you want to increase your range/reception use and 802.11N PCMCIA Card and 802.11N router

Wi-fi help

hey handym4n01,

The built - in wifi adapter of a laptop has only a range of 40 - 50 meters, but you could use a separate wifi adapter, an example of which is an usb wireless adapter where you could customize it. Have you ever heard of a "cantenna", it is just like having an empty can where you'd wrap it with foil and afterwhich you could put the wireless adapter in the middle of the can. An example image is posted below.. The can wrapped with foil helps boost the signal of the wireless adapter.197bc00.jpg
