Old post
do know that this old monitor is not supported now
do know that it has old Sleep logic, (VESA) not supported
Do know that back then COmpaq put a hidden inside the monitor and data clock to setup timed sleep modes,, via the OSD select key
on the front of said monitor.
the manual states that if you press that key, even in local sleep
the OSD must pop to screen, even with PC off.
if not the DISPLAY is bad.
had to teach one person here that, but was unable to understand this and why.
The best way to fix this is 2 fold. Besides a new cable. or new VGA card.
1: turn sleep and hibernate off in your unstated OS.
2: then push select on this monitor, then go to sleep page. and turn it off.
end quandary. 2002 monitors most are dead now, so... all this funny stuff here is long long gone today
I will assume that you have already try this monitor with other PC nad also try new VGA cable but still getting the same result. Then the problem will be inside the monitor which you will have to open it up and inspect the inside for failed components. Most common failure in the monitors are capacitors in the power supply section, see some pictures here as a guide to what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
