Here is a link to the latest drivers for that printer. Just select Windows7 32 or 64 bit (Start - right click on Computer / properties - look under system type if you do not know which):

Why is Hp 2840 color laset printing many pages than requested
This is usually a driver issue. Most times you can download newest driver from manufacturer website. If this does not fix the issue you might have to find an older driver that works. Make sure you completely remove old driver and all software associated. Remove printer to pc connection and only reconect as driver or software ask you to do so.

I had a similiar problem and was using Windows Vista which was not compatible with the XP Installation package. The onboard drivers would not work either. Check to see if your printer is compatible with your version of windows.

Laptop running XP desires to connect to desktop running windows 7-driver needed for HP 2840 color laserjet before connection to windows 7 desktop-is driver put on laptop or desktop
There is no driver for win 7, although if you are running on windows 7 32bit there is a work around. Download the software for windows vista 32 bit for the 2840.

See if there is something wrong with the pad under the ink carton. There is a little sponge thing that absorbs the ink and transfers it to the paper. The ink could also be the issue. If none of these works, you can just return it for a new one if you still have the receipt

The book says to try the old power off and on. And then replace the scanner assembly and then the formatter.

Personally, I would try the formatter.

The problem is Vista. I had a similar problem and the only solution at the time was to remove vista and install good old reliable XP. Now just put windows 7 on and you should be ok.
