  • you can replace your drive to a combo drive (cd,dvd) without messing up your programs
  • open up your cd player software where you should find you can click on "eject". then click on play,this may set the cd drive back to normal .
good luck

Under the drawer is a little latching metal clip - you can use a small screwdriver to gently operate the latch, it is probably just stuck in the open position.

I took my cd player out now wont work

you might just need to reinstall the drivers

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard. If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem "you only need to do the following" if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. Upper Filters Lower Filters Upper Filters.bak Lower Filters.bak If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

My dell studio 1737 doesnt read any disk when i put them in

HI Friend, In this case I would recommend you to check if the CD/ DVD drive is getting detected in Windows Explorer or not ( MY computer) window. If it is not getting detected there then goto device manager and check if you have yellow bang on the CD/DVD drive option or not. If there is a yellow bang then you need to follow the below steps:
1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation anderror code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

### If CD/1) Close all open programs 2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

### IF CD/DVD is getting detected in windows explorer then try updating the firmware for CD/DVD drive

Forgot my windows admin login and password needhelp reseting the computer

how many user accounts do you have, And do any of them have admin privilages?

If they do you can log into that username, click on start, control panel, then click users and update the password for admin,

If that does not help, your kind of up a creek, there are some password crackers out their.

If you need to get to the info then try a live cd any linux cd like ubunto and such will help you retrieve your files and fiolders then reinstall the operating system

Dvd door keeps opening. Won't load dvd. Won't stay closed.Compaq laptop. Bought at Wal Mart this summer. Problem started a few weeks ago. Aaaaargh.

Check and make sure a disk is not stuck in the disk drive. If a disk is not stuck try closing the door and hold the door close, shut down the computer. Start the computer and hold the the door while the computer reboots. Hope this fixes it. djmax1966@yahoo.com..

Cd drive stuck shut with disk in it how do i get it open now

use a paper clip fold it out and push it straight in carefully into the eject hole in the cd drive. It is a small hole on the cd drive usually close to the eject button. You will feel a release on the inside. When you push it you will hear it/feel it eject. Don't push real hard as you don't want to bend the paper clip and get it stuck in the hole

Want to erase drive

If your Laptop is purchased with Recovery Disk, you can use that disk to restore the default setting of your laptop. It usually FORMAT your hardisk and erase all programs and files saved on your Hardisk. If Recovery Disk is not available then you can simply use your provided Windows Installer to format your Laptop and install a Fresh Windows on your Laptop, be sure to format the Whole Disk Drive to erase the files.
