Question about Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

Big problem i have a light engine problem with my hitachi but i purchase it off ebay three years ago do you think hitachi will still stand by there product.

I have mine in the shop and the warranty is only 90 days on a repalcement.

They only have a 3 yr warranty on light engines.

If you search on Ebay for your TV's exact model number, sometimes you can find a replacement stand for it there from someone who has their TV mounted to the wall and is no longer using it. These are normally fairly heavy and bulky items, so Ebay purchase prices and shipping costs can vary widely.

I did not see any for your exact model of TV available there when I looked, but the online selection changes daily, so you can always keep checking back. Just search on Ebay for 'HITACHI TV STAND' or 'HITACHI TV BASE' and you will see a wide variety of them available for different Hitachi TV models as well as what the average price for them is.
Otherwise you can just buy a generic wall mount floor stand for around $100 which bolts to the TV like a wall mount, but actually sits on the floor instead of being bolted to the wall.

DIY light engine


You have a defective light engine and you do not have to be under warranty for Hitachi to replace this part. We just went through this and here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they've never heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once a tech comes out and confirms that it's the light engine, call Hitachi back and they will send a brand new light engine to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (cost $1500).

Here is the deal, if you're under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and the install. If you're not under warranty, all you pay is the install. Our install cost $400. Others on this site have paid $200. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to pay for the light engine part...you do not. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it for free. Also, deal only with Hitachi customer realations number that I listed. Good Luck

You have a defective light engine and if you call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013, they will give you the names of some dealers in your area to come out and confirm the problem. Once the tech tells you it's a bad light engine, Hitachi will send a brand new light engine to the dealer to come out and install. If you're not under warranty Hitahci will cover the cost of the part (around$1500) but you will have to pay the install (runs $200-400 approx)

Hitachi has not recalled this (although they should) but they are replacing it. Don't get discouraged if when you call them the first time, they act like they have not heard of this problem. Just follow through and have the set looked at and they will replace the part...you just pay the install. Once our light engine was replaced, the TV is like brand new. Good Luck:)

Lights flashing and no piture or sound


I had the same problem a little over a year ago. It was the lamp. It needed to be replaced. I hope you have the extended warranty.

Here is what you need to do...just went through this. Call the Hitachi customer relations department at 800-654-7013. Tell them what the TV is doing and that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they have no idea what you're talking about but will give you some names to some certified dealers in your area. Have a tech come out and once they diagnois the problem, call the customer relations department with Hitachi back and all of a sudden, they will be aware of the problem and will call the dealer directly to confirm that it's the light engine. Once they confirm it with the dealer, they will send a new light engine directly to the dealer at their expense (part cost them around $1500). The dealer will call you to set up a date/time to come out and install it. Our install was $400..worth it to us because we paid $3600 for the 60" set 3 years ago. Once our light engine was replaced,the TV is like brand new.

Please deal only with Hitachi's customer realtions department at the number listed above. Their regular customer service will have you chasing your tail. Also, DO NOT let any dealer tell you that you have to pay for this part once it comes in. Hitachi is replacing it for free..all you pay in for the install. Good Luck!

You have a defective light engine and here is what you need to do...we just went through this. You need to call Hitachi's customer relation department at 800-654-7013 and tell them the problems your having and that you think it's a defective light engine. They will initially act like they have no idea what you're talking about but will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once you have a tech out from the dealer and they confirm the light engine problem (takes less than a minute) call Hitachis customer relation department back and tell them that a certified tech confirmed the problem. All of a sudden, Hitachi will say they are aware of the probelm...imagine that!

Hitachi will call the dealer and confirm this with them and they they will send the light engine directly to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (around $1500). All you will pay for is the install. Our install was $400...worth it to us since we paid $3600 for this TV 3+ years ago and it's been a great TV.

DO NOT let the dealer tell you that you will have to pay for the part. Hitachi knows about this problem all to well and they are replacing the part for free.. Again, you only pay the install. Please deal only with the customer relations department at the number I listed above. If you deal with their regular customer service people, they will have you chasing your tell. Hitachi customer relations will take care of you! Good Luck!

There is a service bulletin for this problem - you need to reintialize the memory settings in the service menu - I have a pdf file showing how to do this.
