there is a problem with the case of the drive its not well connect or the board is defective .
are u using the perfect power cable .
you can be sure with this by removing the hdd from the case and connect it directly to the computer motherboard
if it works its sure that the hdd is ok case is deffective.
but before doing all this u can just go to diskmanagement in the manage option see if you can see the hard drive and please inform me with status
remove the hard drive restart your computer the plug the hard drive back into your usb port this should come up with new hard ware found and install the driver If not try a different usb port or your sata drive
No device-drivers are needed. Just connect this USB device, and Windows will recognize it. If there is a "one-touch-backup" button, it won't work, but you can still use drag-and-drop to copy files from your internal disk-drive to this external disk-drive.
I also have the same problem. I bought a 500gb WD HDD and it worked great via USB for about 4 days, not the computer does not have it. i am running windows xp home. i can also hear the drive working and the blue light comes on, but it is delayed. When it was working correctly it came on instantly and the computer found it instantly.
if as you say its working fine is pc accessing drive via usb and have you set the jumper to master as most external enclosures work on the device being master if you can see the hdd on pc then the laptop needs to have windows re-installed but if the pc is not showing hdd then goto control pannel and Administrative Tools and Computer Management and then Disk Management if showing here then select unallacated drive and properties and set active.
then turn of drive then turn back on and see if comes up in my computer.
only do laptop if pc has hdd viewing in my computer.
hope all goes well
