Question about Canon PIXMA MP600 all-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

MP 600 error 5010

I've had my MP600 since January of 2007 - no problems until this week - I was about to photocopy and after a few moments of 'warming up' all of sudden there was a dreadful 'clicking' sound - something is obviously struggling 'to work' - I had to unplug the machine to get the sound to stop.
After a few moments I plugged in the machine and started it up - the clicking sound started right away - I lifted up the lid and the belt that is just beneath the glass and closest to the front of the machine is the source of the sound - it doesn't seem to be moving, but obviously trying to - I'm not the least bit mechanical, but I think it may assist in moving the light source - which is currently mid way between the right and left sides of the machine. Is this a big deal to fix - ie could I possibly do it? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Mike

SOURCE: MP600 / Error Code 5010

it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.

Canon pixma MP600, error code 5010, what does it mean ? Can not turn the printer on for any other purpose, no scanning, copying or printing.

There are a few things you can try:
  1. Power reset; press and hold the Power button until it the machine starts a diagnostic mode; if this doesn't turn on the machine, unplug it for 10 minutes and upon plugging it back in, see if the error reset itself
  2. Unplug all USB devices (including the printer) and reboot the computer. Once the computer has rebooted, plug in the printer, allow it to install (it should install automatically) and see if the error is corrected. Sometimes there can be a temporary conflict and the only way to solve it is to remove all other USB devices (this can work for external hard drives too).
The overall issue with error code#5010 is a scanner malfuntion. If the problem returns, check the ribbon cable as it runs from your scanner to the main logic board. If all is secure and you still have the problem, the printer may need a new logic board.

Error code 5010

Yes, same thing happens to me...Error code 5010...and flashing green and orange...alternating lights.

I was trying to photocopy (in basic black, not colour). I had a few pages to copy. I got this 5010 Error code after EACH copy!

I had to turn off the printer after each copy and then turn it back on for the next copy. That's not the worse of it.....once I turned the printer back on and hit copy again...the printer took a VERY long time to scan the item for the next copy. It took me a good 40 minutes to copy 15 pages.
Sooooo irritating!!!!!

Anyone know what to do?

I've also had the paper jam on me tons of times. I am really disappointed with this product. I would not recommend this printer to anyone!
