Akai 27" wide screen LCD/HDTV/DVD Combo

I have an Akai 27" Wide-Screen LCD/TV/DVD Combo LCT2701AD and all of a sudden the sensor light in the remote does not connect with the sensor light in the TV. I have to manually turn on the Standby button on the TV and some times the sensors stays green and other times the senor response is very short and will turn red again and no TV. I changed the batteries in the remote, I changed plug-ins for the TV rechecked all connections were connected and still no communication with the remote. Does anyone know what I mean and what the problem means>? Thankyou

Thanks Hotsauce1 but it isn't just in the remote it doesn't connect even at the TV "on" switch. It doesn't hold the connection, occasionally if I had the patience to fiddle with it - it would come on after about 10 trys at the TV. However it never connects with the remote-fresh batteries etc. I will never buy anything again with the name Akai and I have also put the word out there. I feel burned.

Some 1000uf electrolytic capacitors have failed on the power supply board (3x 16v & 2x 35v radial). You can get them at Radio Shack or your favorite parts house.
They are easy enough to replace if you are handy with a soldering iron. If not, bring the tv to a repair shop & tell them that you want the capacitors replaced on the power supply. It shouldn't be too expensive.

To get to the power supply, unplug the set from everything including power. Put the set face down on something soft that won't damage the screen. Remove all the screws from the rear cover, they have arrows pointing to them. When you get to the dvd player, care will be needed to get the cover off.

The power supply board is on the upper right side of the chassis and is not covered by anything. Look for the capacitors that are "bulging" on the top. These will need to be replaced. Good ones look flat on top.

Remove the bad capacitors noting there orientation (they are polarized). The "negitive" side will have a "band" printed on the capacitor. Go get the new ones & replace them carefully aligning the polarities correctly. Reassemble the case & you should be done.

Good luck. al

Take the television into any service center - You will have to pay the bench fee - More than likely the parts will not be available to repair the television. Have the service center write a workorder stating that the tv cannot be repaired because the parts are not available. Then, Call Akai Customer service and request an exchange - 800-726-4405

The tv is in protect mode, try first unplugging power cord for one hour, and see if this solve the problem.

Akai 32" wide screen lcd tv/dvd combo LCT3201AD

This may be an instance were the idea was great but the execution wasn't thought out. I've heard of several related problems that may be related. Both the TV and the DVD player tend to produce heat, not in great abundance, but together a sizable amount of heat. The power supply may have been ample for the TV at first but with the addition of the DVD player was not able to handle the extra load. If still under warranty you're all set. If not you might call Akai and see what they might be able to do for you.

Tramaine, I would suggest a new PSU. I have used ShopJimmy.com in the past with great success. Here is a link to the part you need on their site. Hope that helps! TeeVeeMan2

TV screen won't come up

The power supply board or inverter. The power supply board is the first step. Look for any capacitors that are puffed up. Replacing them should take care of the PS. Check to see if you have 24 volts going to the inverter. If you do PS is OK and the inverter is most likely bad...good luck

HD ready?

It was not a problem. It is just a question. Is it HD ready or not without a converter box or cable?
I will go to a store and ask a tech if you can not answer.

Akai LCT2701AD - 27' LCD TV/DVD Player Combo

I don't know if I solved the problem. I find though if I turn the TV off and unplug it and then plug back in when I want to watch it - it works. I don't know why but it does. My remote still does not connect to the LCD but I have cable HDTV so chanel changes work from that control.

I am pretty ********** that it is only a year old and this has happened but what can you do? We live in a disposable world.

I was trying to get to your Premium assistance Plan from where I wrote my issue but I don't know where to pay or what to do on your site it keeps taking me all over.
