I understand that it seems odd that sometimes they disappear. I have a vertical line on one of my laptops right now that it takes about 3 seconds before it appears on the screen but once it's there. It's there.
I think it has to "warm up" before it comes back. I used to do Technical support for a company that produced computers with 5inch wide screens, and everytime something with a line was mentioned, "Fix display cable" was the reason. Because everytime you pushed the screen up to see the keyboard the line disappeared (because the display cable moved) But I digress. All I'm certain of is that if you change the display cable this will be fixed.

Turn off the monitor and disconnect it from the back of the pc. This way you will isolate the monitor from the PC. Now turn on the monitor, if you still see the vertical line then that means the screen is bad and you would need a new monitor.
If the monitor doesn't have the vertical line then that means your video card is the issue or if you have an integrated vga port on the back of the computer then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.
most likely capacitor problem as these caps only have a 25000-40000 hour life span. when you do replaace the monitor , turn it off when not at the computer. even though it goes into sleep mode there is still a current running through the unit cuz if you move the mouse or hit button on keyboard display wakes up. I know this because I have done boad level repair on panels
Does it look anything like this? I'm no computer guy at all, but I had that issue with my Dell laptop and the line disappeared completely. How? After watching that bright green line getting Ionger and longer every day I stopped using my laptop for one whole week due to the holidays. After that first week I turned it on to check some random file and to my surprise, the line was a lot smaller and disperse. I had this 2 week long trip the following week so I decided leaving my laptop at home to see if the line kept getting smaller. When I got home from my trip I turned on my laptop hoping the line were actually reduced, and it was completely gone, completely and absolutely gone. I would recommend you to stop using your lptop for 3 weeks or so. Good luck
Unfortunately this is an early indicator that the LCD display panel is starting to break down and the cost to replace the part will exceed the amount of a new monitor. I recommend using present item until it completely fails. Sometimes the video cable is the issue and should be subbed provided you can detach from both ends.
Hi, Disconnect the monitor from the back of the laptop . Check if the monitor is still purple in the self test feature check . Or there is a vertical line. If the color and the line is not there in the self test. Check the signal cable for any bent or broken pins. If the same is not the issue . Check the video card drivers for problems.
You going to need a new logic board inside witch controls the signals from your video board on your computer. that is the only fix there is that i know of and I been around the block a few times with gateway.
thanks please do leave postive rating and feedback Thanks
you have to be sure if its an issue with the screen or operating system or video card
what you have to do is
turn off your system
now the moment you turn it on again start hitting F2 key
you will get system setup screen
if you see those lines here as well get the LCD replaced and if there are no lines
then try installing the latest drivers
or else you have to get the parts replaced
either the screen or video card
but in case you get display fine in system setup
its for sure your display is fine
