You are already on the right track in attempting to use another service to provide the connection. Since you have already identified that you do not get the same behavior when tethering from your phone it may just be the hardware and not a configuration issue.
If possible, test the connections using another modem and/or router. Make certain that you test them one at a time though. Replacing them both at the same time will just create another variable. In other words, if you replace them both and the problem is solved you would still not know if it was the modem or the router. If your modem and router are one combined unit then that will not apply.
At any rate, if you have another of those on hand, can borrow one from a friend/neighbor, or otherwise that is where I would get started. If you do not have access to alternate hardware then skip straight to contacting your ISP as they will have extras to test with.
Swap in the alternate hardware and test it to see if the connection continues to get lost. If the problem persists it is time to contact your ISP.
It is also important to note that the connection integrity required for your browser to access things like Facebook and YouTube is far less than what you need for online gaming which requires a constant and more powerful stream of data. Not to mention the fact that your games rely heavily on upload speeds as well. Facebook and YouTube do not. In other words the fact that you can access those sites is not necessarily an indicator that everything else is working fine.
May be good to disable all additional settings. e.g. firewall or Port forwarding. I am assuming that you are able to authenticate (connect with user id + password) as you mentioned youtube works fine. So in that case, there shouldnt be a basic issue but more of a port forwarding or nat. Also check your laptop for any setting changes or personal firewalls.
Try pinging local gateway, then DNS then any international website. Based on that you can focus on the problematic area.
HI friend, let me explaing you how this works your wireles adpater is gonna work as a receiver and what ever brand router or modem wireless you have it would work as receiver so you can try make some wireless changes in the router contact your your router vendor and say you got slow connection and disable the firewall in router and assign global DNS 4.2.2.2/4.2.2.1
| |the belkin adapter connects to the airport express router | | sounds like the adapter driver has installed all OK if you have connection to the router. Therefore something is blocking access on your PC - the most common thing is a firewall.to test if you do have access to the internet can you do the following:-------start>run{vista/7 search box}>CMD>ping google.com ----- see if you get a reply message sent 4 times - if you do then you do have access to internet - if you do not get a reply do this ping 209.191.93.53 ------ if you get a reply from this number BUT not from the name then its a DNS issue.------------ assuming that you get a reply from both , then I suspect its a firewall blocking, disable the firewall, now firewalls such as Norton, Mcafee etc can cause issues even if you think you have removed them in the past , or a subscription has expired. to remove these firewalls i would suggest you use a removal tool which is available at most of the manufacturers website - if you reply with a comment on what you have I can post the link now if its a dns issue try the following ---------- start>run{vista/7 search box}>CMD>ipconfig /dnsflush-------- if that does not work - then you could try a public DNS like google public DNS here http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ the link also shows you how to configure your PC - if that works then post a comment back and we can see if we can get it working on the correct dns servers from your isp
1) Get connected to belkin's wireless network or wired network 2) Once you get connected, it may not be able to go online on XBox Live 3) Go to any computer that is going online with the router 4) Type in 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of your Internet explorer 5) This will open up router interface(here we have to do some settings) 6) In the left hand side column, click on FIREWALL. 7) Leave the password blank in login page and disable the FIREWALL. Click on Apply Changes. 8) Under FIREWALL(in the left hand side column), click on DMZ 9) Make a "check" on enable and under Private IP: 192.168.2.25. Click on Apply Changes. 10) Now go to Xbox, under network settings, choose IP settings, and select manual configuration IP: 192.168.2.25 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Router: 192.168.2.1 11) Now select manual configuration for DNS settings. Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2 Secondary DNS: 4.2.2.1 12) Restart both Belkin and Xbox 13) It should connect to XBox Live now...
You should have right settings. Or the firewall of the router doesnt block your computer. Could be MAC blocking or tweak your DNS setting. In your LAN setting TCP/IP properties set your setting for DNS in automatic. Or you set it manually. Try to check your ISP DNS. check also if your router DHCP setting is enabled.
If you are in Vista and using wifi. Goto Wireless Network Adapter under Control Panel>Network sharing Center>click manage Network Service click adapter properties>highlight Internet Protocol version 4>click properties set auto or set it manually. you can also just set manually the DNS.
have you tried simply disconnecting the router from its power and data source, remove the power source from the modem, connect the router back to the modem,(with all the systems allready connected to the router), restore power to the router, then finaly restore power to the modem. after a few min the router should automatically sense multiple requests for dns and ip services and asign addressess accordingly.
If that makes no diff, watch the led light on the router that corresponds to the port that the non-functioning system is docked with. when attempting to access the internet, does the led blink? if it blinks fast and you also see that the "modem link" is flashing then there is a connection, and any lack of access to the internet has to be a firewall setting.
simply go into your router settings by typing 192.168.1.1 in your web browser and using "admin" as the username and leave the password blank(that is unless you have changed all that)
you should be able to view all the computers currently active on your network and the ip assigned to them. you may see that port 5 has been restricted, in which case the easiest way from the very beginning would have been to simply take a ball point pen and hit the reset button on the back of the router.
on the other hand, try that first then the other options above as you may save yourself lots of time and headache
can u please tell me which router it is? in most of the router there is a feature call DMZ. u need to enable the DMZ in the router & then u need to provide the static ip to Xbox 360 like 192.168.1.5 etc in the default getway u need to type the router IP address & on DNS u need to try three different settings 1st on primary DNS type the router ip address like 192.168.1.1, if it didn't work try with univeral DNS try on primary DNS as 4.2.2.2 & on secondary 4.2.2.1, if this didn't work either call ur ISP and ask for the DNS server address of ur ISP and try with that.
