It will attract dust, and collect it, but in order for an air filtering system to work, air has to pass through it. The Ionic Breeze has no fan system to move air, so it relies on normal room air currents to push air through it.
They don't have fans. They attract things using an electricity. if you put your face in front of it you should be able to feel a light amount of air moving and smell what i describe as fresh air. if so it's working fine.
Remove the front grid. Pull firmly but gently on the fan blades to remove them from the shaft. Turn the machine on its back, open front facing up. Use a light household oil (sewing machine, hair clipper, or 3-in-1) and squirt a small amount down the shaft, turning the shaft as you do so. You may need to do this several times, until you can feel the shaft move freely. If this doesn't help, your only option is to use the machine as a $100 trade-in credit for an upgrade. The new company, Vollara, is no longer manufacturing nor repairing the Breeze. I've seen several like that and found the wire connections corroded off. Easy to fix if that's the case. Make sure the unit is UNplugged before taking it apart.
Singer sewing machine oil works great. Remove the front grill and carefully remove the fan by sliding it off the shaft. Where the shaft meets th4e motor, place three or four drops of oil. Spin the shaft and wipe off the excess. Place the fan back on the shaft, flush with the end of the shaft. In the rear, remove the lint screen and the ozone plates. Put oil on one end of a Q-tip over a trash can until it drips off. On the rear of the fan motor, push the Q tip against the shaft so that oil oozes out. Again, spin the fan. Repeat this process every time you clean your Breeze and it should never squeak again.
