Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

RCA VR678HF This VCR has not worked for years. I've kept it hoping to find a way to fix it as it is the best VCR I have ever owned. (And that's been a lot, including the 3 working ones I now have in operation) It turns itself on and off like a child who has just discovered a light switch it can reach. It can not hold the time, a program or even play because of the on and off action. Seems to a VCR dummy like me that it should be as simple as replacing some small part inside. Any suggestions what that part might be?

The power supply has some bad components in it. This is a "switch mode" supply that means that simple fail;ures can show up in odd ways. Usually there are capacitors that go bad in these. Search the web for "repair kits" for these models. These kits will contain the most common replacement parts for the power supplys.

We have a RCA VCR Model VR622HF Manf. 9-18-98 that suddenly won't turn on manually OR with remote. I am an experienced Electronic Tech with 43 years @ ATT. I measured the resistance at the AC Plug and read...

Hi,
If front display lit up when vcr plugged in that means power supply is working and issue is in system control section, and if front display remains dark while vcr plugged in wall socket then power supply is defective.
As you know its an old model vcr so I do not think spare parts would be available any more, I found good option for you to fix this vcr.
Click eBay.com link to get same vcr in working order for $40 that can be used to obtain either power supply or any other board/ parts to repair your vcr.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Remote control code needed

With the TV on, I pointed the remote at the TV and kept hitting the on/off on the remote until the TV turned off. When it did, I knew that was the required code so I hit the stop button on the Universal remote. I did the same procedure with the DVD/VCR player and now they all work fine.

New TV won't ''talk to'' old VCR

using the magnovox remote, reprogram the vcr's channels. set it up to use cable not air. when the vcr was unlugged it lost it's channel memory. don't buy new cables, you're getting a picture and sound so that means your rca cables are ok.

Sylvania vcr/dvd installation

!st) The antenna INPUT::RF (black wire usually from "cable TV", "Dish TV", even ANTENNA air wave reception, etc.) into INPUT of VCR\DVD, OUTPUT of VCR\DVD to TV RF input.
2nd) If you have INPUT\OUTPUT to what are called " RCA " jacks on your TV, on the front or on the back, then any & all output jacks from VCR\DVD goes to INPUT\OUTPUT of the TV.
In other words:: output of audio on VHS\DVD to input of audio on TV( RCA jacks). Output of video on VHS\DVD to input of video (RCA jacks)
Hope this helps

Sony a/v reciever not sending video to tv.....

I don´t know if I´ve understood, but the best way to "pass" video signals to TV through receivers is using a stereo VCR, where you plug in any antenna. Then you connect VCR´s audio and video channels to the receiver. Turning on all equipment, select video1 source. You will hear sound through the system and watch video signal on TV. Hope this may help.

TV image goes off when VCR power turned on

The vcr is connected in between the antenna (or cable) and the tv, and when it turns on its tuner takes control of the signal. Either:
1) press the VCR/TV button on the VCR to let the signal go stright thru
2) Tune the VCR to the channel you want to watch and set the TV to the VCR's input.
3) If you use a coax cable connection to the TV, try switching the VCR to the other channel (3 or 4, switch in the back)
4) Change the TV connection to RCA cables on the A/V inputs.
Hope Ya Fix It!

"SAFE"

Greetings Spock! Although I worked for an authorized rca service depot for 12 years, and worked on many, I can't remember the solution to your problem, and Thompson Consumer Electronics (RCA/GE) don't even accknowledge they ever sold vcr's..I went to RCA.com and your model comes up as "does not exist"...Anyway...I know I've worked on that model, and if you have the book, check the section about parental lock, or Key lock...your RCA could very well be Samsung inside, and if so press and hold the tv/vcr button for 5 seconds and that will release the key lock feature. It is there so if you set the timer, or just don't want the kids messing with it, you can lock all the key functions, and the unit will do nothing except display "safe" Hope this helps...Live long & prosper!
