Startup trouble It does not matter if the battery is installed or not, as soon as I plug in the power plug, the processor fan starts spinning, before I even touch the start button, it runs for a few sec, stops, runs again, stops and so on, and nothing else happens.

Fix another ram and check, otherwise it will be the motherboard problem , one more option is remove the harddisk and check

What would cause my aspire 5630 to shut down sporadically?

Shut down sporadically, caused by rising temperatures on the processor (processor overheat). Processor overheat, caused by damage to the processor fan. Processor fan function to reduce the processor temperature.

Possibilities and solutions
1. The possibility of sluggish processor fan. Processor fan spins, with a low speed, so it can not reduce the processor temperature.
Solution: clean the processor fan with a vacuum cleaner, or replace the processor fan.
2. The possibility of fan processor die.
Solution: replace the processor fan.

The characteristics of damage to the processor fan
After the laptop is turned off (more than 1 hour), the laptop can turn on and survive + - 30 minutes. In the period of + - 30 minutes, the laptop died suddenly, because the processor temperature exceeds safe limits (shut down temperature).

How to check
Laptop is turned off (more than 1 hour), then turn on. Download and install software to check the processor temperature. Ex. Real Temp 3.60. See the change in temperature. If the temperature continues to rise, it can certainly cause damage to the processor fan.
- Normal temperature, when first turned on + - 38oC
- Normal temperature, after turn on for hours 40oC - 45oC
- Temperature overheat processor, when first turned on 60oC - 65oC

Acer 5610 aspire laptop keeps switching itself off....any ideas?? Thanks Lizzy x

Likely overheating. especially if on our bed or lap. exit from fan is on the left back and needs to be clear. plus heat from bottom needs to escape and have space.. Other ideas are that the battery is starting to malfunction. Sometimes it does not matter even if it is connected to will hickup now and then. Related to point 1, your cpu fan may not be running - you should hear it full blast on startup then gear down after. If it is making noise - unusual or stagnant uniform speed, then cpu fan in order. My bet is that it is the battery...take it out, connect to AC and run normally...if it does not shut, then u know. battery for this is about $ fan is about $12. (ebay)

Slow start up and shut down

You didn't mention what version of Windows (Is it Windows, or is it Linux / other?) that you are using. For laptops in particular, windows sometimes gets confused as to which power saving state that the laptop should be in.

Next time that windows is running, you should see an icon of either a battery, or of a power plug in the area next to the clock (lower right corner). If you LEFT click on this, there will be a list of various power schemes that are available. MAX BATTERY will reduce the processor speed the most, while ALWAYS ON turns off power saving altogether, and allows the laptop to run at full speed.

If your fan always seems to be on, or seems to be cycling on and off rapidly even though you are doing little with the computer, then you might need to have the fan and heatsink cleaned out (consult a computer shop). When the processor starts to run hot, the motherboard will begin to slow it down regardless of the power scheme.

You might also be looking at a program that is loading during startup (did you just happen to install Open Office by chance?) that also takes a while to unload while shutting down. Consider what you have recently installed, and check your startup menu (click start >> programs >> startup ) to see what is being loaded there.

My Toshiba Satellite A75-s206 shuts down by itself. When I feel the bottom it's burning hot. Could this be my fan not working properly? Please help.

I am a Toshiba Laptop Tech. The A75 in notorious for over heating. The fins on the heat sink get clogged with link much like you clothes dryer. This restricts airflow which leads to overheating and ultimately the machine will shut itself down.

The Solution:
By some canned PC air and blow in into the fans from the bottom.

If you are feeling gutsy, disassemble the machine clean the fans, heat sink and apply the thermo-heat grease.

Ei systems 4411 wont power on/mains or battery power

If the fan does not spin, the unit is shutting down to protect the processor. I would have the fan replaced . Do not attempt to use the laptop, it may cause extensive damage if it overheats.
