C 0650 - Faulty scanner home position sensor.
Remove the glass and clean the home sensor.If the scanner moves smoothly remove foreign matter and other obstacles,clean the scanner rails,clean or change the scanner bushing.Place WD 40 oil on scanner bushings.

L1 or L1-00 indicates Scanner movement failure. The scanner is the part under the glass that lights up and moves back and forth. So if you lift up the feeder so you can see the glass, turn the machine off for a few seconds then back on. Watch the movement of the scanner. It should move right and inch or two then back to the left. If all goes well the copier should come to ready. Lay a piece of paper on the glass and press the print button to watch the scanner movement. If it binds up or does not scan correctly there are 2 possibilities.
1) your scanner lock is engaged and is preventing the scanner from moving. Check the clear plastic dial located under the far left upper side of the copier, near where the paper exits the machine. Make sure it is in the unlocked position.
2) Your scanner rail is dirty and dry. This rail can be seen under the glass towards the back of the copier. The scanner rides on this rail. It is very common for these to get dirty and for the grease to dry up causing the scanner to freeze up on the rail. The glass must be removed and the rail cleaned and lubricated.
Just power off then on the copier to reset.

Open the "Devices and Printer" dialog, select "Printer Properties" from the context menu and go to the "Ports" tab. It seems that somehow your printer doesn't always get assigned to the same port. Try checking the correct port and your printer will be online again.

Did you let the copier sit for a couple of minutes? Sometimes when you turn the copier on it won't let you get into the printer or scanner features for several minutes, for no apparent reason. Letting it sit and coming back a few minutes later usually works.

If not, and you still can't get in, the print/scan software may be bad. Turn the copier off and reseat everything -- DIMMs, hard drive, SD card -- everything you can see attached to the controller board (the main circuit board). Even unplug and reattach the connectors.

When you reboot the copier, it should work fine. (Remember to give it a couple of minutes before trying to get into the scanner features.)

If you still can't get in, try to isolate the problem. Can you access the scanner screen on the copier by pressing the "scanner" button? Can you get into printer features?

If this is a Sharp copier then L1-?? refers to the scanner section of the copier. If this is a little desktop model then moth likely the scanner lock is engaged (found under the left side of the scanner glass).

To scan a document to file (Scan to File), the WorkCentre must be directly connected to the workstation using a USB or parallel connection. Scan to File is not supported over an Ethernet connection.
