Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
If i do not need a disk, or anything how do i do it. cuz the ip won't work. it will not connect as if it doesen't exist. and when plugged in, it won't recognize that there's anything there. how would i go about it.
i have lost my installation cd for my linksys wrt54G wireless modem. i tried calling around, and i tried to connect w/ linksys online, and nothing is helping or working. basically all i need is a copy of the cd to install, or the setup files necessary to do so. i have been searching, and doing this online, and with help of friends, and nobody has been able to help me. not linksys tech, or anybody. i can't find a copy of the files to download anywhere. PLEASE can somebody help me?!?! thank you. anthony
Are you trying to get the router settings through the IP address 192.168.1.1? If that doesn't respond, look at the back of the router for a small reste hole. With the router power plugged in, use a paper clip to reset the router config back to default. Hold the reste switch in for 30 seconds and pull the power afterwards while holding the switch in. Try that. There really shouldn't be a set-up disc needed for Windows XP or Vista. If you are using a DSL connection, I am sorry to inform you, but there is only 1 dependable router for wireless DSL and it is made by D-link. If you still feel you need a set-up disc, look on linksys website and search their archived download section.

I tried that but the computer does not recegonize that there is something between the comcast router/modem thingy, and itself. when i got the linksys about a year ago or so, i had the disk and installed the disk, then i plugged in the linksys. it worked fine. my home burnt down about 8 months ago, so i lost a lot of the software that i had, including the linksys disk. i went to the linksys site, none of the firmware on the site does anything, and when going to the tech page, the forums don't help cuz they say to punch in the IP, i then do so, and the page itself seems to be missing. so in other words, that is a no go in that department. everything that i have tried such as resetting the linksys as you had mentioned did not help, neither did resetting both linksys, and comcast. at this point it seems hopeless without the disk, and that's how i see it. if there's any other methods i would love to hear them, or if there's a different link that may get me the files needed to install on a totally different computer, that would be helpful. thank you. It seems that your issue circles around the start up CD. Few things you can try if you have not done them yet, since no one is able to help you due to the missing CD.
1) Check with some one yo know who has the same model Modem
2) If this fails, try a store such as Frys Electronics/ BetsBuy/Circut City etc...they might have a CD in their repair shop and might be willing to load the software for you for a fee or even burn a copy for you.
3) Buy another Wireless modem.
Best of Luck
