I am trying to configure an IBM thinkpad 2647 to my wireless network but every time I open Internet Explorer I get a 'Cannot find server' message. I seem to have a connection to my Netgear router. (My PC is connected directly into this so I know this is working OK) . Also the diagnostic test on the wireless card has come back as fine.
What am I doing wrong? Are there some settings that need to be changed? The system I am using is Windows 2000

Re: Cannot find server
So, this is a new computer you are trying to add to your router? I hope you have configured your wireless router for encryption. If you haven't you should, or evil people will read your transmissions. If you cant find the router key, you can reset the router back to default, (sometimes the router has a pinhole which resets it to defaults, go to Netgear to get info on how to set up an encrypted connection for your model (each model has its own default setttings, which Netgear can tell you--unless you still have its manual; then use windows to set up your wireless network. Hope that takes care of it for you. It is also possible that you can use windows wireless setup for usuing one of your computers as a wireless port, instead of your router--you might bypass the mess that way. But do find out whether it is encrypted. Good luck

The ThinkPad T21 is a laptop with a single drive bay.
You cannot setup this laptop with two hard drives in any RAID configuration.
You can add an external USB hard drive and copy/backup data to this hard drive.
You can connect this laptop to a network and copy/backup data to another computer/server on the network.
It may not detect it automatically. You will need to configure your dial up modem if you are trying to connect to the internet that way. Go into the network connections and go through the wizard there. It should ask you for the telephone number to dial for internet access so have that handy. If you don't get that box, you went to the wrong area.
A few years ago, i too had an IBM thinkpad and encountered some issues as well when connecting to the internet.
The IBM 2647 does not have a built in wireless card, meaning that you need to purchase one from your local electronics store to use wireless internet. The software provided with these CD's can often be quite helpful and will help you set up the connection.
The 2647 only supports an analog modem connection, and the modem in the area you are attempting to connect via ethernet may use a digital modem. Adapters are available although they are quite pricey (ranging from $200 and up.)
There are a few requirements other than the laptop and the wireless card. You need to also have an Wireless AP/Router that must be connected to the modem that connects to your ISP. All your PCs must then connect to this router either using the wired/Ethernet ports or WiFi.
If such a device (WiFi AP/Router) already exists and is connected to your modem and your other PC(s) are tied up to it and can access the Internet, you need to install the drivers (in a CD that came with the wireless card) to your IBM ThinkPad. Thereafter, you need to configure your laptop's wireless networking to access the AP/router. Your AP/Router must also be configured to accept wireless clients.
Please post back with brand/model of your AP/Router.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.
