Hi my wd 500 g hard drive will not open on my computer... when i plug it in the light starts flashing but nothing else happens.. it doesnt even show up on the computer... i dont know what to do i have so...

Try unplugging the power cord from the hard drive and leave it it off for about a minute. Then plug the power back in. If it still doesn't show up, restart the computer. You can also plug the hard drive into a different USB port. Hope this helps.

I just purchased a My Book 3.0 IT DOES NOT START UP

I found my MyBook didn't work on my Dell laptop. I had to plug it into my desktop and format it before it would work on my laptop.

Is there any way you can try connecting your MyBook to a different computer? See if you can format it on a different device and then try your laptop again.

My book does not show up as hard drive in my computer

Try going to Disk Management in Administrative Tools and see if it's there. Perhaps you changed something and you need to assign a different drive letter to it. I suggest some letter at the end of the alphabet, like "X" for example.

I kicked my HD by accident, now my laptop does not recognize the Western Digital 1TB My Book external HD. I tried to plug it in from different USB ports, tried with my desktop, and my parents' desktop but...

Hello there,

There might be a disconnected wire inside your My Book, preventing it to be detected by your computer. Or maybe a broken part that needs to be resoldered. But dont worry, you harddrive is still secure.

What you need to do is to take off the hard disk inside and place it in another USB hard disk enclosure. How to do that, here is a video that could guide you.

Or if you dont have an enclosure you can place that inside another computer for it to detect it as data drive.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

Computer does not recognize My Book

Right click on my computer.then left click (LC) on manage. go to disk management. if you dont see your drive try removing it and plugging it back in. if it does see it RC and LC on initiallize drive. you should hear a da dum from windows when you plug in a new piece of hardware. or whenit initializesthe drive. if not you have an internal problem with the drive. the drive may be fine but some of the electronic components can fail. you can try using a different external harddrive enclosure @ 15- 30 $. Does the drive light up. fi you get it up runnig you may want to consider bacing up the data you ext. drive may be close to failing.

No Power to new 640 My Book Drive

John, Ejected or unmounted may be the difference.  Have you added the drive?  If you only power it up occasionally for back-ups you would leave it off, but for everyday use once it is added you can just leave it on and after you power down then turn it off.  randy320sgi

Wester Digital My Book 1 TB problems

Try booting your computer first and then connect the usb cable to the usb port on the computer. Connect the power supply cord directly to a wall socket. Also try the usb cable on different usb ports on the computer. If possible also try it with a different usb cable. If nothing works, check the file format system under disk management, you might have to re-format it.

WD My Book is acting very strange when plugged in.

Guys there is an internal hard drive inside this unit. Simply take apart the enclosure and use this drive. There seems to be a power design flaw. Your information should still be there!!!
