Sounds like you're having a major failure. I would remove the hdds you have now - in case they are crashing for good - buy a new hdd - format and put an operating system on it and boot the pc - put the other hdds back on as exterior hdds - get the info off of them and move on. BUT - only if - removing all ram but one stick - and all the other cards that you do not absolutely need to make the pc function - take out - take everything out but one stick of ram - the video if it is a card and the hdd - - - start from there and see how it goes - 99 times out of a hundred it will perk up. I would seriously consider backing up the old hdds and getting fresh - HDDS are cheap now.

Best of it

Need help with imac im locked out

Problem: Your Mac got locked via iCloud and on boot displays "Enter your system lock PIN code to unlock this Mac." It also sets an unknown password on the firmware so you can't boot from a disc. And you don't know the PIN code for a variety of reasons (not my business).
lockscreen.jpg

Solution: Mount the locked drive on another machine, find the PIN, re-install the locked drive into the original Mac, enter the PIN, resume your business.

Tutorial:
*I'm going to post the steps I did in my case and suggest steps you might take if your case varies.

Things Needed:
1. Alternate machine with space to mount an additional drive. (works on Mac or PC*)
*If you're using a PC, you'll need to download and install Mac Drive to be able to read the contents from a Windows environment.
2. You might need a SATA to USB adapter if you have a laptop without room for an additional drive.
3. Screw driver to disassemble the Mac.

Step 1: Remove the locked hard drive from your Mac.
You can find detailed guides for your specific machine at http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac

Step 2: Install the drive into your alternate machine. But make sure you do *not* boot from it. Boot from your regular drive.
If you do not have an alternate machine, feel free to ask a tech buddy of yours to lend you their machine.

Step 3: Once booted into the alternate system, locate your locked drive.
In my case it was drive D: on Windows. Now browse to \Users\username\Library\Application Support\iCloud
pindirectory.jpg

Step 4: In the folder "iCloud" find a file named with a bunch of numbers: ##########.lock In my case it was: 1138515150.lock
pincode.jpg

Step 5: I'd suggest that you take a picture of this file name for accurate reference. But you can also just write it down.

Step 6: Once you got the number, power down the machine and remove the locked drive.

Step 7: Install the locked drive back into the original locked Mac.
Follow your iFixit guide from Step 1 in reverse to put the drive back.
*It is important that you put it back in the machine where it was originally locked* so that the motherboard firmware will be unlocked in the next step.

Step 8: Boot up the locked Mac and referencing the number you recorded, you can start trying 4 numbers at a time for the PIN.
Try the first 4, then the second 4, and so on..
For example: 1138, 1385, 3851, 8515, 5151, 1515, 5150.
In my case the PIN was the second to last 4 digits: 1515
If you typed in more than 10 combinations, then it says that you are locked out for a minute. Just restart the machine and continue entering the combinations from where you left off.

Once you enter the right PIN, the Mac will instantly reboot proceeding to where you were at when the lockout occurred. It will also remove the firmware password.

The ice maker backed up and put extra ice on the back of the freezer causing ice tray to stick out and freezer did not close. Pulled extra ice out and closed freezer but freezer is working (2-3 days the...

Hi and wlecome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You really have 2 problems.... 1 the inlet water valve has failed causing the water in the ice tray. The only remedy for this is to replace the inlet water valve. If you can squeeze the rubber fill tube at the back of the icemaker and it is / was frozen solid the inlet water valve is for sure bad.
Turn off the water supply to the ice maker until the water valve is replaced or the current problems you have WILL repeat.

The other problem you have is due to the door being open the evaporator coils iced up big time and the normal defrosting process is not removing all of the ice. Unplug the unit and direct a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours with the freezer contents removed. While the unit is manually defrosting... open the back of the unit by removing the lower fiberboard cover and clean the condensor coils and fan along with the drip pan / tray.

After 2 hours clean up the water mess and return the unit to normal service. It should work just fine.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Hdd password frozen on laptop These both worked. Thanks much to Eddie333 and howarthjd2. What I ended up doing was this: Note- I was not replacing the HDD, merely trying to reinstall WindowsXP, which...

if you download the sata drivers from the toshiba website for your specific laptop and then extract them and get nlite ( www.nliteos.com and slipstream the drivers into the xp disc you can then re install xp and it should allow you to boot.

As for the hard drive frozen password that should be in the bios on the hard drive that you set it for so it should remember it

if not you may have to contact toshiba and they should have a back door password that they can produce once you give them the asset tag ( serial number of the laptop ) and once you enter that it should resolve the hard drive frozen issue.

Had a hard drive frozen at a school once and had to call dell ( as it was a dell laptop obviously ) and gave them the serial number and they created a back door password for me - jobs a good one :D

try You can force a frozen MacBook Air — or any current Mac laptop — to shut down and restart without removing its battery. You just hold down the power button for a few seconds until the machine shuts off, then wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.

Hi there, I think it may be to do with the format of the harddrive - see if you used the Maxtor in a Windows XP environment it would have been formatted to suit that OS.

Is the Harddrive formatted to NTFS?
