ACER Aspire 5050 Overheats

Overheating and shutting down. Can I replace the CPU fan myself?

Thank you Nathan for your very helpful suggestion. I should have mentioned that I have already done what you suggested to no avail. I do have a small pet and have vacuumed the fan vents just to be sure none of her hair is lodged inside. Obviously it's working now so I'll see how long I go before it shuts down again.

    Will do Nathan, thanks again!

You can do it yourself, but I do not recommend it,
I would first try buying a cooling pad for your laptop to see if that resolves the problem.

Did you only vacuum the outside of the vents?
Or did you take apart the computer to do it?
If you only vacuumed the outside, it is highly improbable that you
got nearly all of the dirt/fur/dust.
Unfortunately the only way to fully clean it is to completely take it apart.

Acer aspire 5335 switches on then goes off

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Laptop shuts down

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Purchase a can of compressed-air, and give your computer a "blow-job", to remove the dust, because the dust is acting as a layer of insulation, trapping heat inside your computer.

Reload the battery.
Connect the AC power.
Start your laptop, and check that the fans inside the notebook computer are pushing air out of the exhaust-vents. If not, the fan(s) have failed, and you need a professional computer technician to disassemble your computer, and fix the fans.

Blank screen. Won't turn on.

You could have an overheating problem. The CPU shutsdown when it overheats and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. Check the CPU fan and heatsink assembly. The fan may have stopped spinning or spins slowly and the heatsink is clogged with dust.
Remove the dust and replace the fan if it is faulty.
