I have the same problem, the only sound that works is the windows startup noise (when you turn on the computer). No other sounds work despite my efforts...headphones, external speakers, internal speakers all have no sound. Updating the driver doesn't work.I have the same problem, the only sound that works is the windows startup noise (when you turn on the computer). Can you get into Safe Mode? I suspect your configuration needs tweeking.
Also I would immediately go into the Bios and make the boot order be CD, HD.. etc. Also make note of any hidden partitions such as H, or K. Those sometimes house a mirror of the factory version of XP... like when it was new.
I have toshiba laptop satalite with 2 operation windows 2000 and HP windows running thus slowing the system down consiradably. Idealy would like to delete the windows 2000 professinal. Please help
Yes! I would agree with you, reloading windows several times confirms what you suspected. The next step is replace the hard drive and get your system up and running.
www.drivermax.com visit the above site, download the free driver utilty and it will scan for hardware, find the latest drivers and let you choose what to install( I used it to "downgrade" from vista to xp on my Toshiba Equium P300D, it was excellent).
Harddrive has probably crashed or the connection have become loose. Flip the laptop over and look for the Harddrive assembly. Usually has 1 screw holding it in place. If you feel comfortable enough - remove the screw and pull the HD out and slide it back into place. See if the connections are simply loose.. If that does not work you probably need to replace the HD.
you may just need to reload your driver
if that don't work you'll have to put vista back on
i assume the system came with vista therefore it would have a more updated driver that may not be compatible with xp
let me know if you need anymore help
That is normal, you need to reinstall drivers after installing the system from a generic Windows CD. Here is toshiba download page Click and follow instructions to download drivers. You may need also to reinstall network, video, modem, and pad drivers if you want to achieve full functionality.
